which one to choose? both are used. to be put on a proflex 955 frame, used for xc and general trail riding. thanks.

on another note, does anybody know anything about the proflex 955 bikes? i'm looking to upgrade the rear elastomers to a coil spring or shock.

RockShox...easier to get parts, the standard for regular xc and train riding and very light.

White bros single crown...company is more popular for their dualcrown dh forks :)

got the air judy... woulda loved to try the fox though since i never rode one, but reading the mtbr reviews it rated lower than the air judy.

Fox rides funny and the customer service scares people. The ride is purposful but feels 100% different than marzocchi which is why it generally gets bad reviews.

Congrats on the fork :)

thanks mael... actually i don't know man.. i'm feeling a bit uneasy about the fork. looks like the total air system is not a set-it-n-forget-it system. problem is i never took apart a fork before. maybe would've helped if i put the total air cartridges in myself then i could at least know a bit, but looking at the included literature i have no idea what each part is. don't feel like getting my hands dirty right now either, i got to go back to summerschool in a week. and the person i bought it off of seems to be a lightweight racer type, and i'm 170ish lbs so i might have to adjust the internals for my weight =[. and i'm reading off of mtbr things like if you dont configure it correctly there's huge risk of blowing a cartridge. or maybe i'm just making it hard on myself that i passed on a white bros fork =/.

Sorry man I don't use air forks as I weight over 200 pounds and just don't trust them. Should you not just be able to pump the air up to support your weight?

Tfunk,
Risse makes a good shock to upgrade a 955. It is the genisis and it is air oil. They fit the 95 to 97 model year but not 14" frames. Also the Astro 5 air oil (Risse) The Astro 5 is a beeffier shock external rebound and daping with a fully adjustable air spring. The genisis has servicable internals and is a little more slimed down. Those are the two I know of.

mael- i could pump the fork but i think there are internal adjustments for rebound and compression. actually rereading the literature i think it's not too bad.

hunter- yeah i've heard about the risse genesis. i think that i can use it without switching out the strut. i might give risse a call about the shock upgrade, though i do intend to use the elastomers until they are unusable. have any idea how much a risse upgrade would cost? i'm thinking it would be economically unfeasible since it might cost more than the frame did.

Yes you can use the Risse shocks without switchibg the strut that is what they are made for. Cost on these little gems is Genisis $168 amd the Astro 5 $280.

that's a lot of bank! one more question, is the risse genesis a universal shock that happens to "work" for my proflex 955, or is it a line of shocks that carries the specific application for the proflex? do you understand what i'm trying to ask? i don't know how else to express it heh. like is the risse genesis a standardized shock that works on a number of frames, including my 955, or is the genesis a line of products that come in different applications? thanks! maybe i can find a used shock for cheap...

Risse makes the Genisis shock for many different bikes the 955 is just one of the Pro Flex bikes they build a shock for.
