My tandem has Sturmey Archer hub gears, which have a specific cable end. It came with two solo cables joined with a piece of electrical terminal block, but this just isn't working - it's come loose twice. Does anyone know where I can get the real thing? If it could be in the UK, all the better, but I'm at my wits end, and don't mind ordering transatlantic at this stage.....

Many replacement S/A cables come with the bolt on adj barrel---those barrels would work with any long tandem cable. Some use a spole nipple soldered on the cable end to make replacement S/A cables too.

The bolt on adjuster barrell I have, the trouble is the other end of the cable - the shifter end. That's completely unlike a regular derailleur ferrule, but maybe a spoke nipple would work.

on the shifter end you would have to solder on a small piece of tubing---try a (train/airplane) modeling store. These cables can be made up--just takes some doing to get them right---St.Johns Street cycles might be able to help you with a new one, they know tandems.
