Today was the second day in a row that I've been able to cycle in SHORTS ............ rather than shorts plus tights plus sweatpants.

I felt almost naked out there!!!

The last time I was able to cycle in shorts would have been ..... ummmmm .... probably last September. 7.5 months ago or so.

I would absolutely hate living in Canada. I have been in shorts for almost three months.

I'm dying from the heat down here in Texas!

Here in Ottawa, Ontario our normal high temps for May should be in the low 20's (68-72F) but for the next week we're gonna experience morning lows of 1C - 4C (33-40F) and highs in the mid-teens. That's definitely not short weather

You guys should move south before this "Global Cooling" phenomenon gets really serious.

I've been in shorts for two weeks, but my knees have not been happy with me on a couple of mornings!! It's usually better by the ride home though.

I'll be back into tights again this weekend.

But I have to say, it actually feels weird to have wind brush against your legs!!

I've lived in Texas and North Dakota. I'd choose the latter. It's easy enough to layer up for a cold ride but it's impossible to cool yourself when it's 113 degrees with 95% humidity.

The last two days I've been able to cycle in shorts ..... with a SHORT-SLEEVED JERSEY!!! No jackets, no headbands, no full-fingered gloves ... just shorts and a jersey!! WooHoo!!

It feels really odd to have the wind blowing against my arms and legs as I ride ... and I feel vaguely unprotected.

Kinda like skinny-dipping feels, I'd guess?

I only cycle with long tights from Nov-March and in that period in the early mornings only.
Otherwise I cycle year round in shorts.

The Great White North. Even Michigan has been out of the deep freeze for awhile (crossing my fingers).

Shorts weather arrived here in Ottawa a week or two ago. Now, if we could just get away from these severe thunderstorm advisories. :(

wow:eek:

It was actually kind of sad because it damaged many trees. The snow was so wet and heavy, that bushes were squashed, and branches were broken off trees. The aftermath looked like a hurricane went through.

It melted quickly enough for me to do a 600K a couple days later on dry roads, but all along my ride there was broken and damaged plant life. It'll grow back, I'm sure ... but the whole thing was a bit of a shock.

Now tomorrow, the temperature is supposed to reach 29C!!!! I know how to dress for 29F, but 29C is HOT!!! I don't know what to wear!! I'm guessing that my usual 2-3 layers on the bottom, and 5-6 layers on top is going to be a bit overkill.

At least you got to ride. I did read about it.
I get confused about what to wear when the temperature first changes a lot going in either direction. It was 91 F here today. I didn't check the weather this morning and was way over dressed.

When is bike forums going to get an automatic temperature converter program? When I type in degrees F. it comes out degrees C for you and the other way around. :D

How is your shoulder now?

It has been extremely warm here for the last three weeks. I had to break out my summer riding gear early.

Here's a chart for you 2manybikes:

It's 33 celcius and 90% relative humidity here today... I envy you your cold weather. And yeah, I did a winter in Ontario not so long ago, so I'm not just saying this :p

Thanks ! I like it. :)
Shortcut is going on my desktop right now.

It beats looking at the old round thermometer outside that has both and seeing where the numbers line
up. I have to get up to see it.

It was 83° here when I got back from my ride today. Shorts, sleeveless Under Armour shirt, mesh vest, sunscreen. Nice.

We got the same thing in Calgary. Not a foot, but a good 4-6". It took out quite a few poplars. I rode to work in the melting slush and convinced everyone I was completely mad :D

It's getting hot here too - my wicking T-shirt that I got free with a box of cereal (Vector cereal and the Running Room are running a promo) is my favourite thing right now. It somehow seems *cooler* than a tank top because it stops that UV-burn feeling on my skin. (I am ridiculously pale and burn if someone so much as SAYS "UV Index," I swear :p ). I also bought some Coolmax cycling shorts which are much comfier than my MEC lycra ones. I found them at the Running Room, of all places. I'm not totally sure about the padding in them - it seems a bit bunchy - but I think it will wear in OK, and it's definitely cooler.

Wanna trade? :)
Earlier in the year it was actually decently cool for quite a while. Longer than past years.

I will like ride 1.5 miles max. in anything but my Pearl Izumis, I do recall right after the doc gave me a prescription for a bicycle I was back for some salve(No Comment),, well one thing lead to another, and to my Pearl Izumis. There is a couple places I feel immodest, but better immodest than chafed.

I guess it depends on how far north you live in Canada as well. When I was back in Toronto a few weeks ago, it was hot to the point of not really bearable (for me). Even under the shade, the wind is warm/hot. On the other hand, San Diego is cooler. Kind of weird. :p

Not much different here in lotus land.

There's a distinct turning point in the weather in mid-March, where it's no longer cold. Septembers are beautiful and Octobers only start to get cold in the evening at the end of the month.

There are just a handful of days in the year it gets below freezing and for a good 5 months, it's perfect.

The second largest country in the world and there's one, tiny little temperate zone. Vancouver is cycling paradise. (sure it rains here, but you don't have to shovel it, it beats ice, and it keeps everything green)
