DURHAM BIKE CO-OP BIKE FIX-UP, GROUP RIDE, AND COOKOUT SATURDAY, MAY 19th
In celebration of Bike to Work Week, the Durham Bike Co-op (http://www.durhambikecoop.org) is pleased to be hosting a whole slew of exciting activities to take place this Saturday (May 19th). Please stop by and join in the fun!
From 9:00 a.m. - noon, the Bike Co-op will have a fix-up station on hand at the Durham Farmer's Market (http://www.durhamfarmersmarket.com) (in Durham's Central Park on the corner of Foster St and Hunt Ave) for simple bike repairs.
At 11:45 a.m: Cyclists will gather for a leisurely group ride around Durham, co-sponsored by the fine folks at Traction (http://www.getTraction.org). Before starting we'll give a short primer on riding safety, and along the way we'll point out a variety of progressive institutions in Durham, as well as convenient businesses, and give people a feel for just how easy it is to get around Durham by bicycle. We'll stop for a short break at Locopops halfway through the ride, where people can whet their appetites with a tasty treat (detailed route info (http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Durham-Farmers-Market-Durham-Bike-Co-op-5-19)).
Around 1:30 or so, we'll conclude the ride and arrive at the Durham Bike Co-op, located in the Bull City Headquarters community center at 723 N Mangum St. There the Co-op and Traction are hosting a cookout in the back of the space: food (including vegetarian friendly options) will be on hand, as will Co-op volunteers to continue bike tune-ups, as well as to present a workshop on bicycle fitting.
At 4:00 Bull City HQ will be turned over to the Youth Noise Network (http://youthnoisenetwork.blogspot.com), who are holding a benefit show and fish-fry to support their activities. Stick around to hear some exciting youth-made music, and meet the people behind yet another awesome Durham organization!
