Hello All,

I am very new to (serious) cycling, and brand new to this site. I am a recovering marathon runner, and am trying to overcome a knee issue that has been keeping me from doing any long runs since Nov. I hope to recover fully to continue to run marathons, but also want to keep up with the cycling both as a cross training exercise as well as to participate in some century rides, and who knows what else.

I am currently riding and old Trek 7000 mountain bike, but am trying to locate a Specialized Roubaix as my new road bike. I hope to have one soon although I may have to wait for the 08's to come out.

I have had experience with other forums for my past cycling hobby (motorcycling), and have found that the forums I was involved with to be great sources of information. I have every reason to expect that this forum will be just as helpful and entertaining.

You should check out the road forum if you haven't already.

Hope to see you around

Knee problems eh? Welcome to BF, you're in good company. Hope you get your shizzat sorted out, and with luck love the bike life like I do. What do you mean "serious" cycling?

I'm another (at this point "former") runner with knee problems - I had a sports injury at age 16 that resulted in arthritis in both knees.

I have all but stopped running at this point because it's really no longer enjoyable for me, but I was fortunate to discover cycling a few years ago, and now I can't imagine "exercise" any other way! ;)

Thanks for the welcomes. I plan and visiting the many different areas of this forum, and from just what I have seen so far, there is much information to be gained. I plan on checking on the Road Forum as this is what I plan on doing the most of.

I guess what I mean by serious cycling is that I plan on doing more than an occasional ride or two. Kind of like running marathons instead of 5k's.

Thanks for the info on the Texas Forum as I will be doing most of my riding here. I do want to do some riding in California though, as we just came back from there in April where my wife just ran the American River 50, which is a 50 mile race from Sacramento to Auburn Ca. Looking at the roads there made me really want to go back and do a riding vacation in northern Ca.
