Mountain Biking - Anyone in VA know this tool?

Is this representative of mountain biker attitudes in the DC area?

Why would a bike shop want to employ somebody with attitudes like this?

From this morning's district extra Dr. Gridlock column:

I strongly oppose cyclists sharing the road with motorists. It is not only unsafe, but inconvenient for drivers.

Cyclists tend to act as though the rules of the road don't apply to them, and as though they possess the same presence on the road as automobiles. It is amazing that there are not more cycling-related fatalities in our area. Cyclists belong on paths, and nowhere else.

Before you chastise me for being anti-cyclist, I would like you to know that I am an avid mountain biker who rides more than a thousand miles a year, and I have been an assistant manager at a local shop for years.

It could also have been the title, but I think he fits in the category of Tool quite well.

I see where you're coming from. NoVA suffers from acute crappy traffic planning in general, and yeah, you do have your fair share of lame high-speed roads, but I do all of my riding in DC and MD. Impatient and distracted cell phone using a-holes abound all over the DC region, trust me. Get out a bike map, plan a less-travelled route, ride, take the lane when necessary. You'll be fine. I do it 5 days a week.

Why? So cyclists can punish everyone else that works with him who are trying to make a living to support their families. Ridiculous.

Boycotting is a legitimate means of redressing grievances. If he sells out a large part of the cycling community wholesale, then that part of the community should respond by not giving the shop he works for business. The shop can then either fire the problem or go out of business. At either length, the problem is solved.

As for people associated with this tool having to feed their family: Ever heard of cutting off your nose in spite of your face?

If the shop is made aware of this tool's comments and they choose to ignore it, they do so at their own peril. If they straighten him out or fire him, they're to be commended.

Then it would be in the best interest of the shop and its customers, to no longer employ this asshat.
Sometimes ownership gets caught up in dollars and cents, and needs to have a problem pointed out to him.

By the way, as far as I am concerned, this applies to every company trying to get my business, Specialized and Cannondale included. All my bikes are either one or the other, but if I have a bone to pick, and they didn't care, I wouldn't patronized them again.

I would tend to think that the assistant manager is merely suffering from beltwayitis, and that his thought processes might just clear up if he left the area immediately. It seems there are a lot of folks inside the beltway who share these a**h** traits on one topic or another...

This wasn't a piece of reporting, this was a published letter sent in to "Dr. Gridlock", so there aren't really any "facts" to get straight. I fail to see any satirical intent in the letter at all. I totally could see someone sincerely believing this. To give the benefit of the doubt, it could be that the letter was redacted and some satirical cues were dropped.

I know of three bike shops in Springfield. He definitely doesn't work in one of them. The other two are Performance bikes and Hudson Trail Outfitters.
