Hi People:

I am a Clydesdale, 5' 10" 260 and have just taken up biking. Purchased a Trek 7.2 FX in a nice red color and am looking forward to biking on it.

Can anyone tell me any more info about this bike? Is it really a road bike?

Thanks

HB

I just bought one of these myself in the same color. I've ridden it every day this week and love it.

I've taken it off road just slightly onto grass and a dirt trail but nothing serious. I probably will just use it as a road bike to get in shape more than any trail riding.

What size frame did you get? I'm your height but I weigh about 80 more pounds than you. I got the 17.5" frame.

Welcome, Honeybear! Someone else posted recently about getting a 7.2. Personally I have a Trek 7200 which is similar. I would refer to it as a "Comfort" or "Hybrid".

17.5 inch frame. I only have 29 inch legs so that was plenty enough in my case!

Welcome aboard!

Good choice on the bike, I have a 7.3FX which is very similar. Most would consider the FX series a Hybrid, but I consider mine to be a "hot hybrid" :D.

The only suggestion I would make is to ditch the suspension seatpost ASAP. You may lose a tad in the comfort category on your bottom, but your efficiency will make up for it. For what it's worth, I changed my saddle out to a Brooks B17 and that SIGNIFICANTLY helped in the ride category. I don't know if the stock saddle is just that uncomfortable or what, but I noticed a MASSIVE difference.

They are great bikes with great geometry. Around here they are extremely popular, and I can see why - I love mine!

Fascinating you should say that because the dealer reccomended the same thing and we did that. Also got a slightly more comfortable saddle than the one that looked too much like a razorblade for my butt to sit on!

Me too! Kinda odd to find someone built like me. I tried several bikes and this one just fit me like a glove.

I'm going to be ditching my suspension seat post also. I found out that the Thompson factory is in my town, which I thought was cool.
