This question probably exists elsewhere but I'm new and I can't find it

anyway...

I have been looking at both the Fuel EX8 and the Stumpjumper FSR comp. Both seem like really nice bikes. I ride in eastern PA, on pretty roungh trails, and I am pretty tough on my equipment. I currently ride a hardtail and have never ridden a dual-suspention bike. I am pretty familiar with the set-ups of both bikes and am just looking for some owner opinions and the like.

The trek felt like a tank to me and the stumpy felt nimble...for the record I ride a trek...but in your case I would pick the stumpy

Same here. I even smashed into a car head on a few years ago with mine.... bent my fork and wheel, and broke my helmet. Frame is still in great shape... just have to make some upgrades over time just because I've had it since 1999. Broke my Langster frame in 2 months though :(

i tried both and went with the trek> rides much better up hills and feels more responsive...to me. try them both.

I love my '05 Fuel EX8, it climbs, handles, and rides great, the '07 looks even better. Go ride them if you can.

Ride'm both.
I am biased towards the Stumpy...I own one. Its a great all around bike. Does everything well, but nothing great. Its a comfy bike, well-suited for all day rides through the rough stuff.
I've heard great things about the Trek's ability to climb. This is the piece I think the Stumpy lacks the most.
