Northern California - Monticello Century -- Sun. 5/20

Join us for the inaugural ride of the Monticello Century! See details at www.monticellocycling.org. Cgallah & I will be there on our tandem, as well as cfblue. The ride includes a t 25 mi. family ride as well as a metric century. The weather will be excellent. The entry fee is cheap, and you can even sign up that morning.

I plan on doing it next year. I have to work that day. It is a great route for the metric and century.

Looks like it may be a bit windy tomorrow. Hopefully we are somewhat sheltered in the hills.

We did the Metric, my stokers second longest ride ever and longest this year. Red Rider and her subordinate set quite the pace for our small group for the first leg, it's no wonder they break spokes, their acceleration on hills is a rarity among tandem teams I've ridden with. We split off after the first rest stop for the shorter ride and eventually made back in good order, among the first dozen to arrive, the big lunch wasn't even ready when we got there.

Although I did hear grumblings to the contrary, I found the rest stops well stocked, manned by people who appreciated our participation and the course was well marked so folks like us who are not real familiar with the area had no chance to get lost. All in all, they put on a great ride, We look forward to next year!

The century was as scenic as can be; we'd never ridden Pope Valley or 128 west of Moscowite Corner, so we relished the new hills & views. All the rest stops were well-stocked and staffed by many of the Monticello Cycling Club members; having kindred spirits feeling your agony and ecstasy is a real treat. We finished the ride in record time for us -- so yeah, we're up for next year's ride, too.

My two ridin' buddies and I rode the Monticello as well and agree that the route was indeed well-marked (and if anyone can get lost on a ride, it's me) and that the rest stops were well-stocked and operated by good-humored and knowledgeable volunteers. Same goes for the sign-in area and the post-ride feed. This was the first century for my two friends and they both had a blast! Our thanks to all involved for a great ride.

Our one concern was for the rider who apparently endo'd quite badly near Lake Berryessa and needed assistance from the paramedics. We only caught a brief glimpse of her, but she appeared to have some cuts on her face and was definitely down for the count. If anyone knows the rider who crashed, I hope you'll pass on our best wishes for a quick recovery...
