Road Bike Racing - Bay to Breakers

Ok, so this isn't a bike race, but are any bay area BF'ers running this on sunday?

by the time I signed up, wave1 was sold out. Have you done it before? I am wondering how long it takes before the crowd thins out enough that you can actually run if you get stuck in wave 2. When I did the nut run in central park last new years eve, it took about 1.5 miles out of a 4 mile course before you didn't have to weave through bodies anymore.

I did it last year, was tons of fun. I think my time was 1h 14m. Not bad for someone who never runs. Will be skipping it this year so I won't be limping for a week and have fresh legs for Mt. Hamilton.

Well... The whole wave1 vs wave2. No one really checks... So if you get there early enough you can start with wave1. Thats what I did last year. Since my friend was in wave1 and we wanted to run together.

I have not run it before, it just happend to line up with a conference i am going to out there. But ya, the wave thing is usually pretty loose, just start moving up before the start and before the front gets completely packed and you should be able to go off with wave 1

How early do you have to get there in order to kidn fo sneak into wave 1?
If the thing starts at 8am should I get there by 7 or even earlier?

I would guess that 7 is fine, but again, i don't know. An hour seems like a long time to be standing around waiting.

Wow, what a day!!! That was an awesome race! The crowds were surprisingly well behaved for as many as were out there. The bands on the rooftops were great - it really helped to have people cheering and screaming, especially on the hill.

How many of you guys ended up going? I finished in 1:12:12 which I was happy about considering the hill, the crowds you had to weave through and so on...

yeah! I will definitely do this again next year.

yeah, it's running. A bunch of BF'ers did it this morning. It's a 12k race that goes from one end of SF to the other. You basically race from the Embarcadero (near the ferry building) to the bay, going approximately straight across. You have to go up Hayes which is a hill about 0.5 mile with up to 11% grade. It's not just a race though - the whole atmosphere is like Mardi Gras! People all over the sidewalk yelling and screaming, people on rooftops, at least 10+ bands playing along various parts of the route, people in costume. It's actually a pretty serious race with a lot of prize money to the top male and female finishers. The winner takes home $25k I think, then there is money for KOM and QOM as well...

Yeah, I've always wanted to do that one. Closest thing I've done to that is Wharf to Wharf in Santa Cruz.
