How well does a brake work on the non-machined surface of a Velocity Deep V rim? I'd like to know before I waste some money...thanks!

Works fine(though not as well especially in rain) and will slowly scratch away the paint. I used this setup learning to ride fixed. The rim has just a couple long thin scratches now.

If you are planning on running a brake, why not just buy rims with machined sidewalls?
deep V's are designed for looking good....not necessarily to be braked? upon

I ride with a front brake only... front wheel = machined, rear weel = non-machined. I would NOT suggest braking on non-machined.

a better question is if machined rims work without brakes.
