Introductions - Hi From NJ

Just found out about this forum and can't wait to go explore. I live in Central Jersey and after a 18+ year hiatus from getting on a bike, bought a Giant comfy bike two years ago. Last summer, I moved to my 20 year-old Myata (you could hear me coming a mile away that thing was so noisy) and finally upgraded to a new rode bike two months ago. Eighty pounds gone since I first got on the Giant, I'm training to ride my first century this summer and can't wait to read about everyone's experiences and lessons learned.

Congratulations on getting ready for your first century ride. You'll definitely enjoy the euphoria that comes over you as you enter the finishing area! I've heard of this 100-mile ride in New Jersey that might be of interest to you, it's called the Jersey Devil Century (http://www.sjwheelmen.org/jersey_devil_century.htm) and is held in the Pine Barrens section of the state. I've never been there to experience this ride, but my family is historically from that state, so that's how I know about it. It isn't until the end-of-September, so you would have plenty of time to prepare.

Thanks all (Edison - right down the road - North Brunswick here). I heard about the Jersey Devil ride but we're shooting for the Princeton Free Wheelers Annual event on August 4th. Though I'm thinking of the Devil ride for 2008. Especially if we end up doing the ride from Long Branch to Cape May (can't remember the name but I think it's for MS) at the beginning of the season. It will be a good way to bracket it. I guess that's the thing about distance riding - you either looking to do more of them or go farther - this could be addicting. :D

Lots of good rides around that general area: Habitat for Humanity (Jamseburg), Pumpkin Patch Pedal (likewise), Central Bucks Bike Club's Covered Bridges Ride, several Burlington charities rides--Ride for Kids' Sake, Red Cross. My opinion (although I belong to the club that hosts it): the single best ride around, considering all aspects, is the CBBC CBR.

East HillI do! Right now it's hanging upside down in my garage pedalless (sp). I'm debating leaving it at my parents house so I don't have to bring my bike down there but can't decide. It could really use a new seat and probably a tune-up on the gears.

I think the folks at the C & V forum would tell you it would be worth your while to keep the Miyata as a nice back up vehicle :) .

Hi backatcha from NJ. :) I live in Monmouth and work in Middlesex.

During my first mountain biking career I used to ride from the Tinton Falls/Eatontown area to the beach in Long Branch, and back (yes I ride a mtb on the road, knobbies and all)... about 20 mile round trip. Lots of fun, and a great workout. But the roads and drivers are getting worse. You have to pick your routes carefully.
