Halfway through Monday, all of Mon. night and into half of tuesday I had a slight case of food poisioning. I'll spare you the gory details but I was up at least once an hour in the bathroom all night Mon. evening and into Tues. Morning. Needless to say it was coming out of both ends.

Anyone who has ever suffered from this knows how miserable a person can get.

I feel a lot better now, able to keep food down, etc. Though there is still a very minor case of upset stomach, not to bad.

I have an idea on how I got the food poisioning and have eliminated the cause of it.

Here is my dilema. I would like to ride tonight afterwork. Should I risk a regression and ride? Or take today off from riding to make sure I am fully recovered from this slight illness?

What would you do if it were you?

Your opinions please.

Thanks.

John.

The good thing about food poisoning is once it is over it is over. Get your hydration back and eat a bit and go for a ride. Don't expect to break records but you will be just fine for a ride otherwise.

I hate the the hershey squirts! Especially when accompanied by the chuncky heaves.

Down some pedialyte and get some water back in your system. As sam says, the most important thing to do, is get hydrated. You loose alot of water in that type of situation. I would still ride, but keep clost to home and dont push to hard. Glad your feeling better!

Sorry Koffee, an overused statement. But at least it might help keep chocolate intake down if you have an addiction to it ;)

I once got food poisoning during a week-long tour. It was not a pleasent experience that night at camp. Luckily my friends were considerate and we had enough spare cash between the bunch of us to pay for a night's motel room to allow me to recover the next day. We only had to postpone our departure by one day. I didn't feel entirely better until the following day though.

Not necessarily so. I had a particularly bad case of food poisoning back in Feb. I was sick for about three days - and it took me at least another three days before I was physically able to ride the 2.5km return to the shops. This is from someone who normally has no trouble with 250km rides. It took me a week after that before I was able to ride at 100%.

IMO, you might be OK, but if there are any signs you are weaker than normal, don't risk it.

Let me echo other comments: hydrate! You lost a mess of liquid and you must replace it. I don't think the exertion of riding will hurt you, though I bet you won't be in your best form, but the loss of fluid, combined with fluid loss that came with the symptoms of food poisoning, could be a problem. Having said this, I'd certainly feel like riding. :)

I must be on a course for destruction then since I have been riding injured since February. Just take it easy.
