Hello all, did a search but couldn't find anything specific.

My frame got a nice powdercoat recently, with some coats of lacquer on top. I want to do some patterns on it, but i know it wont work well by spraying it on top of the lacquer.
The guy who powdercoated it said get some 'polyurethane 2 pack' spray paint, and i will, but i just need help removing the lacquer.

Can i just sand it down with some good ole wet&dry, or do i need some white spirit/solvent?

Help much appreciated.

If it's lacquer use lacquer thinner. Mineral spirits won't do it.

Actually you CAN spray 2 part clear right over whatever laquer is there. No need to remove it.
So go ahead and do the patterns and then clear the whole thing.
If you sand or use laquer thinner or acetone, etc, you will be removing the powdercoat as well.
Most powdercoats are dry laquer based products.

Yeah, you can spray a slow-drying paint like enamel or polyurethane on top of a fast-drying lacquer just fine. You can't do it the other way around; spraying lacquer on top of enamel will result in lizard-skin scaling and cracking. There was a fashion trend in the '80s for this kind of paint-effect, but it's since fallen out of favor.
