Hello every one,
I have been realy enjoying my TREK 1000 , since i got it like 2 months ago . It has been problem free , except for my tires/tube.
I was riding sunday and i got a flat , luckly i wasnt far from home.
I notice a piece of metal like a staple went thru the tire and puncture the tube , stuff happens. so i went to the bike shop and had it repaired , thinking i wont have to go back in while,,,,ha.
On monday the same tire ( the reat ) went out on me.

I learned my leasson now im going to get me some extra tubes and a bike bag to keep my things in. Can some body recommend some good tubes and also some really strong tires , cause these are not cutting it.I have Bontrager Select tires . Is it just my bad luck or they suck?

I carry a spare tube, and CO2 and tire irons. I hope to not need them, but I am sure that sooner or later, I will have to use them.

It appears that you are having some bad luck. I have the same tires on my Lemond. After 1000 miles, no flats (knock on wood). I do carry tire levers and a patch kit, just in case.

You could try a kevlar-belted tire, like a Vittoria Rubino Pro or a Specialized Turbo Armadillo. But you'll still get flats, or you won't, depending on luck.

I will guarantee you that if you have no way to repair a flat, you'll get one. So always go with a patch kit or spare tube and a pump, irons if you need them, and be prepared to fix a flat any time. That's the best way to prevent them. The one day you forget your pump or your patch kit will be the day you get your next flat.

Should always carry a spare. Just common sense.

Were they Conti GP 3k tires? I know lots of people that have problems with them.

Of course that is just life.

On Sunday shop ride we had a guy that flatted once and then again after about 5 miles. I told him he would flat 2 more times. Sure enough. In the end 4 flats. Why? Just the way the cycling Gods work. No reason as we checked and checked. Just the way it wrks. I knew it would be one of those days.
