Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have a set of Mavic cxp 10's, double walled,36 spokes, mounted to shimano rsx hubs,(they came as original equipment on an old cannondale R500 that I've long since re-equipped). I tip the scales at a meager 270#. I'd like to use these on a bike I'm planning to ride on some packed blast paths, such as rails-to-trails paths or some old canal tow paths. I'm planning to run about a 32-35 tire with a moderate tread. But, I'm a little concerned since I can't seem to find any info on how strong these wheels are. So, I thought I'd run the idea by the clydes collective to see what kind of feed back I get.

I'd say ride them. Worst case, you'll pop some spokes and find out they aren't suitable. It doesn't sound like you are going to be doing anything really extreme with them!

I have a buddy with the same model wheels on a Canni R500 (32 spoke?). Old style frame with the seat stays meets the cahinstay before the wheel dropouts.
He's 155 lbs and has had problems with the wheels staying true. But like TS says, ride 'em till they pop. Then replace the rear with a Velocity Deep V. Front should be fine for a long while. The rear is the abused stepchild here!:D

I'm 230 and use the Velocity Deep V on the rear of my 98 Canni. On the front is a Mavic CXP33.
CXP33 runs about $70 per rim (but this is California:D) at the shop.
I picked up the Velocity Deep V (rear wheel) for $25 on a clearance rack, built it up myself. Original is about the same as the CXP.
V is 30mm high and very strong 520 grams per rim. BUT VERY STRONG!
CXP is about 23 high and 450 (?) per wheel.
