OK, i've seen the term a few places lately, and it just found it's way into my training plan.
Simple question... What is it?

OK.... For real, though.
It is an interval where you push as hard as you can until your legs give out.
I'm not so sure. I believe I've also seen the term "blowout" to mean "get the lead out" or "remove lactic acid" at a low VO2Max pace rather than one in which you go until failure.

i have no idea what the term means. in the allen and coggan book they refer to it several times in the sampled training plans. It appears to mean an interval of some sort to prepare you for another harder effort or something. In the book they mention 5 minute blowout intervals at threshold power before you move on to the real effort. Since they mention threshold it seems to me that this is not an all out effort.

I am being serious. A blowout interval is one where you go so hard that at the end of the interval you can't turn one more pedal stroke.

Yep, that's what I'm referring to.

I've never heard of them either. It might be what I was doing at the back of the 1-4 open (2nd) crit on Thursday -- similar to bdcheung's description ;)

Hey Rockets - how'd the Crit go? I really want to come out for those - have to take off work though to do it...
