I am about to purchase a used touring bike and have a couple of basic pedal questions.

1. I use SPD Mtn bike pedals/cleats on my road bike with shoes that have recessed cleats--will any SPD
mtn bike pedal be compatible with these? if not, how do I pick one that is? Or do I buy new cleats that would work for both?

2. Do you have a recommendation for a good value SPD pedal? I like staying with MTN bike pedals and recessed cleats

my apologies if this has been covered a million times

thanks in advance for your help

John

I do the same - walking even short distances is just too uncomfortable with typical road shoes !

I use my shoes/pedals interchangably without difficulty - dunno if that holds for *all* SPD products. The LBS where you purchase such things (or, the customer support help line at Performance/Nashbar) could tell you for your specific models.

Pedal choice depends on how aggressive your touring is, I think - i.e., durability is a greater issue in the Australian outback than in most of the US. I've never bought "tour-specific" pedals - guess I always figured climbing is climbing, with or w/o added baggage....
