General Cycling Discussion - Cannot fit trunk bag on seat post rack.

I ordered the Bor Yeuh Seat Post Rack (http://www.nashbar.com/profile_moreimages.cfm?category=112&subcategory=1079&sku=17022&brand=) from Nashbar. The problem is that there is not enough clearance under my saddle to mount a trunk bag. Either the rack does not extend back far enough or it sits too high,

I was looking at the Ascent rack (http://www.nashbar.com/profile_moreimages.cfm?category=112&subcategory=1079&sku=14916&brand=)

and it seems to mount back a bit further but not much.


Has anyone else had this problem? Should I be able to mount a trunk bag?

What you want is one made by amoeba. The bag carrying section is adjustable fore and aft and works. As to strength- Use it on an offroad Tandem that is used aggressively and had it for 3 years now.

That site needs some serious professional help. All it caused me to do was exit as fast as I could click.

You might check out Topeak. At 19" long, they are the longest seatpost racks listed in my QBP catalogue. Weight limit is 20 pounds.

The only time Flash should ever be used is to demonstrate a product and perhaps for games.

Can you put a normal rack on the bike that attaches to the rear dropouts and seatstays? It will carry your load lower which will feel better and there will be plenty of room.

I find seat post racks to be badly designed and annoying. They were created for mountain bikes with rear suspension but it seems that bike manufacturers used them as an excuse to stop putting eyelets on dropouts and seat stays and when customers want to carry something on their bike they hand them a seatpost rack. I can't count how often I've seen such a rack swinging off to starboard or port on someone's bike.

This is why I recommended the Amoeba- This one works- but you have to find the bit out in the real world instead on the cyber version of their web site.

Now a real proper rack is by far the best idea, but it is not suitable for all bikes or all uses.

I do have a "normal" rack. A bit of a pain to mount. I just thought a post rack would be easier to mount and unmount when I am not using it.
