Bicycle Mechanics - rear der tension pulley noise?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
My girlfriend's rear der makes a constant clicking noise. It sounds like the chain is rubbing the inner plate of the cage at the tension pulley. Took it to LBS and they said the chain is fairly new, right size, the pulley bearings feel good, the pulleys are not worn and nothing is bent. Yet it clicks as every link goes by the cage. Any ideas? It's a 8 cog 105 (I think)

You sure it's clicking the cage and not the cassette cogs? If the latter, then a simple adjustment of the barrel hut on the RD should do the trick.

I was just looking at a junker bike I picked up for $15 a little while to check some other things (it IS a FH:)).
Anyway, cranking the pedals gave a very similar sound to what you describe. The bike has been sitting a few? years and the chain is stiff enough that it doesn't QUITE flex enough. Almost, but no cigar. You can see the pulley slightly "twitter" with the sound.
Does your chain have some "gooey" lube or something on it that prevents it from EASILY flexing?
