Hello everyone. I've been biking since I was a young lad, but nothing serious. Currently I am riding my bike (a Mongoose SX 4.3) more again and loving it. My riding is in a suburban area. My bike is probably not the best type for this but when I bought it around 8 years ago I didn't give it much thought, it was just the type of bike the neighborhood kids bought, we did bike on a "trail" that runs through the city but it is actually a paved road that replaced railroad tracks, not very rough and certainly not mountanous :D. The bike is suiting me well enough for now (maybe I haven't tried anything better yet), but maybe later if I continue to bike more as I hope to I'll buy something more suited for my purposes.

Currently I am biking for practical reasons and of course for the exercise, and also to be more environmentally-friendly (vs. driving). Wish more people would do the same. My current goal is to bike to and from work, unfortunately I work rotating plus double shifts and consider night riding too dangerous I can only do this at most about 25% of the time. Hopefully I'll get a straight day-shift job sometime and be able to commute with my bike much more. Currently I am putting together a kit to carry on my bike for basic emergency repairs and injuries which is how I ended up here, have a question about frame-mounted pumps but that's for another forum.

I work as an electronic repairman for Mittal Steel.

Cheers.

Hello KM, I know what you mean about commuting on a night shift schedule. I am just changing my hours from 2300-0730 to 2005-0435. Ugh! My husband and I drive in together, but I will be riding home everyday. Lights, Lights, Lights! There's a sticky in the Commuting forum all about lights :D .

We'll see if we can't get you addicted enough to get another bike!

Welcome to BF!

Thank you East Hill. Turns out I didn't need to ask about the pump, I did some searching here and discovered a consensus that the Topeak Morph is awesome. I just bought one of those, and plan to use it as my only pump. I didn't understand the difference between road and mountain bike pumps until reading here. I bought the Turbo Morph G version, and also a Topeak toolbar to have allen wrenches and tire levers in my kit.

Excellent! You are off to a good start, then. I'll be looking forward to seeing some posts from you in the Commuting forum, then.
