BMX - Cost effective to build a flatland bike?

I'm looking to get into flatland, and the used market for them is really small. I don't want to pay for a brand new one, just cause I feel that I could almost put one together for around the same price with better parts.

I'm just curious, if anyone has rough figures on what their flatland bike ran. It just seems with decent frames being around $100 new (flatlandfuel.com), it jsut doesnt seem worth it to buy a brand new ride.

Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated,

Unless you have all the flatland parts ready to be built up, just get a complete. DK Signal.

You can flatland on any bmx bike. A flatland-specific bike will help you once you have the basics down, but you can learn the basics on just about anything.

I'd just get a nice quality bmx bike, put 4 pegs and front and rear brakes on it, and buy the Ground Rules DVD.

The Signal would be a great bike to start with too.

I go for a complete to start. As with any bike, start with a complete then work it up. With less repairs etc.. it will be cheaper in the long run
