Spent the morning checking the bikes over and cleaning and lubing and admiring. Lots of time just looking at the things, but eventually checked the bikes over and lubed them up. Not enough time looking at them obviously as I decided to check out the headset on the Bianchi. It is a bit stiff and loosening off everything and resetting has not done anything to ease the problem. It is obviously the bottom bearing is a bit dry or siezing but as it is a sealed bearing- All I will have to do is get some WD40 into the thing and swop it over with the top bearing that takes no pressure. Loosenened everything off and the bearing is rusted in. No problem- put a screwdriver in and ease it out.
There is no way that it should have happened and this in no way is Hero worship. I have done a DG. Only thing is- I did it better than Dg- I was stripping the thing out on the lawn, so I have nothing to even remotely rebuild. The sealed bearing that will last a life time-Fell into hundreds of bits all over my newly mown grass.
I was going to the LBS this morning and one of the things on the list was a new Cane Creek bearing. Instead I decided to cut the lawn and do a few jobs on the bikes. So it looks as though it is a road ride tomorrow for me.
And those hills looked so inviting .
