Introductions - newbie in Midland, NC (CLT)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I just got into bicycling a few weeks ago. I bought an Orbea Vuelta from the excellent folks at Ultimate Bike at Matthews, NC. They have proved a treasure of solid support and information for a newbie like me. I'm struggling with all my various cycle computer functions and aggressive farm dogs chasing me, but I'm still having a blast. I started with 2 miles, then 4, then 9, 13, and now 25, but it takes me two hours!

Hello togliat, that's an excellent bike for your first go at it! Check out the regional forums for the Southeast and get to know your neighbours.
Don't worry, the farm dogs will have you rapidly increasing your speed before long :D .
Welcome to BF!

Hello togliat and welcome to BF! I actually just got back from Hilton Head Island and I highly recommend it for a change of pace for a nice bike friendly area, if you can ever get down there. The Hampton Inn at the airport was about $85, and there's a really nice LBS (local Bike Shop) called Bicycle Link. I'm not familiar with your part of NC; is it near Charlotte? There are quite a few Charlottians here...

I find that if I try to outrun the dogs, they LOVE it. If I slow down, the get in close, snarling and baring their teeth. Yikes! :)

Midland, NC is just East of Charlotte, although I'm also familiar with the Duck/Kitty Hawk/Nags Head area of the Outer Banks, which is North of Hilton Head, right? It must be nice to ride near the beach, except, perhaps, for the sand in your cogs?
;)
