I am fairly new to riding. I've been at it for about a year now, and I rode in the HHH last year for my first big organized ride. It was great, hot, but great!

I am wanting to learn more about bikes, the components, ideas on building up one from the frame, what are good/bad parts, etc. I plan on reading this site more and more, but does anyone have suggestions on books, magazines, or websites that have some good reading?

Thanks!

Welcome to BF JB! I believe you will find many helpful people here; they helped me select a good deal of components for my build. I'm in the NE, but I am a regular visitor to the Dallas area. The Grapevine area is very cool, with the local arts stores and even a nice local Wine Bar. Check out the Road Cycling Section and then come on over to Foo for recreation. I actually like using the search function and reading multiple opinions than using publications for my component decisions, although Bicycling is a very good pub.

Hello JBurger, quite a few folks here from Texas (which has a separate regional forum you might want to check out), and at least two of our moderators are in DFW.

There's a wealth of knowledge to be found here, so take a look around--there are links in various places to some of the best other websites, such as www.sheldonbrown.com, and the Park Tool website.

Welcome to BF!

Hello from over in the Dallas/Richardson area. We have lots of Dallas folks on the board and the Texas forum (click under 'Regional Discussions') is fairly active. You'll find all the advise you could ever ask for (and then some!) here on BikeForums.
