I rode the second half of the 100K route of the Horribly Hilly today and wanted to give a heads up on some significant roadwork.
There are two significant stretches of dirt road with large and loose gravel- the First is on Blue Ridge Road about 1/2 mile after turning off of Hwy HH. This stretch continues for approx 1/2 mile until you turn onto Knudson Rd. Then after approx 1/4 mile on Knudson there is another long stretch that goes up and over a hill and also on the steep downhill side. It is very hard to maintain a line in this stuff as the rocks are big and the dirt is loose. My advise is to skip these sections entirely for now- just continue on Hwy HH past Blue Ridge Rd until you get to Lakeview Rd. You can then turn down (right) on Lakeview and do a U-turn at the bottom of the long descent to get the experience of that long, extended climb, which is part of the normal route.
Any word on whether or not this work will be finished in time for the event? Other than these sections the 100K route looks great (and hilly).
