I just got a couple of brand new tires and tubes for an old junker I am fixing up. The rear one went on fine, but the front one, when I put it on, and then try to inflate it, I notice that where the valve is the tire is not flush with the metal the way it should be. There is a bit of inner tube rubber underneath each side of the tire so that it is pinching it underneath there. I only went up to 60 PSI and was afraid to go any more because I don't want to ruin the tube. :crash: I tried to pry it back under there and i cant get it! Can anyone help me, is this okay to let it go? What should I do?

Thanks!!

Hi jfk32sounds like the inner tube you are using is meant for a wider wheel rim where the reinforcement around the valve has more room either side to allow the tube to seat properly. I take it the tyre is the right size for the rim? have you checked ? can you let us have the wheel rim size and the tyre size I'm sure someone here can advise

Just deflate your tire and knead that particular area with your thumb......also try pushing the valve stem back up into the tire while partially inflated. You probably just have a pinched tube underneath the tire bead. Nothing major...

well thanks guys for the advice and everything. Too bad now I can't use it because in my frustration I just grabbed a screwdriver and managed to end up puncturing the tube while getting the tire off for the third time. Ahh well no big deal I guess. I had the right size tube im 90 percent sure because the LBS guy picked it out for me specifically. I'll double check when I go back.

I need to get some rest before I touch that bike again... I am ready to do this :crash: right now, you know how frustration can be.

Thanks everyone. I'll remember the ideas for the next time it happens.

Jason, when you go to buy a new tube, ask the guy at the LBS who sells it to you if he will teach you to fix a flat. Get some proper tire levers too. Screwdrivers are real hard on tubes...and rims...

Jason, it sounds like you need to teach that lil'ol tyre a lesson it won't forget in a hurry.:) Just tie it to a sturdy tree and hook it over your tow hitch  :D hee hee
