Some guy is selling such a rear tandem wheel on ebay for 50 bucks. Is that a killer deal that I would be a fool to let slip away?

It's a 5-spd freewheel. If your setup will work with that, then it's probably a fair price.

The rim alone is worth that . . .
However, tendency for spokes to pull through Mavic rims in about 15,000 to 25,000 miles. So depending how many miles on that rim and if it fits your tandem (that's a 5-speed freeheel) with solid axle . . .
