Just can't take it anymore. 3,300 miles on my B-17 Champion special. 2nd one I've tried. Tried every conceivable fore & aft, tilt adjustment to no avail. Slapped a LBS used bin $5 ,generic specialized saddle on my LHT yesterday and went for a 25 mile ride. Wow! What a relief! Will never go back to a Brooks. I'd place the Brooks on this list's classified section, but even though I'm a subscribed member to that list, I've never been able to successfully list anything on it. Just ordered a Koobi au Enduro The Brooks is going on E-Bay tomorrow with pics.

Sorry you're Brooks didn't work out for you-- you're smart to ditch it and try something else. I ride San Marco Rolls... nothing else seems to fit as well.

Maybe it's just my anatomy, but I like the WTB saddles. The Rocket V is absurdly comfortable. It is the most comfy seat I have ever used (twenty years of riding and buying every seat I could find on the elusive no butt pain search). I gave it to a poor friend, who was trying to build up a bike. After spending several years breaking in my B-17, I'm sticking with it. I Love it. I waxed it when I bought it with Sno-seal. It took forever to break in. I had a hard time oiling it after that, because the wax wouldn't let in the oil. So it stayed hard for quite a time.

Anyhow, I recommend trying the WTB saddles. (no association)

Sounds like you gave it the "good old college try." Too bad it didn't work out. I'll buy it. Send me a PM.

SnoSeal is all you'll ever need for many years. You're right, the beeswax is sealing out the oils. That's good. Here's a tip: Sometime in the next decade, you may want to try oiling it again. Heat it in the oven on low to re-activate the SnoSeal so the oil can get in. Or, just apply more SnoSeal and forget the oil. ;)

You rode 3,300 miles on that saddle and now you figure it's not right for you?

That's perseverance!

100 miles for every micro adjustment! I figured with everyone touting the Brooks as the Holy grail, be all end all, shakes it for you afterwards saddle,I must be doing something wrong. It took me 3300 miles to figure it out, but then I'm a slow learner.

Interesting. I'm a Brooks virgin and am hoping to take the plunge soon. Will be curious to see how this works out for me. Sorry isn't wasn't your cup of tea. Maybe you have a weird elephant man butt? Show us your butt.

Yeah, 3300 miles, that is perseverance all right. he he.

Blasphemy!
With all of the many threads lauding the Brooks B-17, I thought that when attached to the seat post, a white light emanates and you ascend to the heavens. Good thing I've stuck with my Terry fly and assortment of San Marcos.....:D

Funny you mention that, I have a WTB Speed V that came on my mountain bike and really, really like it. The best stock saddle I've used, but I've only used it on my mountain bike. I'm currently thinking about trying a WTB saddle on my roadie which now has a Specialized Toupe. For now, I'm satisfied with the Terry Fly on my tourer. No saddle can work for everyone, that's for sure.

Nice to see a post once in a while to balance out all of the Brooks true believers. Many love the Brooks, but it isn't for everyone. It really is just another saddle that you may or may not like.

I tried a B-17, but it never worked for me, too much soft tissue pressure. I have been using a Koobi Silver for several years now, no problems.

I have that WTB on my mountain bike and like it a lot. I also have a B17 on my tourer and it is very comfy. I must have a split personality Butt.
