I haven't really done much biking since college. But buying a house near a bike path has inspired us to give it a try as a family. We'll likely just be biking around the neighborhood and occasionally to work which is only a few miles away and not far off the bike path. I'm mostly just looking around to get ideas about what kind of bikes and trailers to get for the adults and kids.

Thank you all for the welcome. We took the plunge today and bought some bikes and trailers. Trek 7100s for the adults, a trek go-bug for the preschooler, and a freeloader for the almost riding on her own but not quite there 7 year old. Having no other means of getting them home, we biked. And it was a blast! :)

We live in Madison, Wisconsin. We've also been car free in Northfield, MN and Portland, OR and Salt Lake City, UT. The key to car free for us has been planning. Planning to live near work, combining errands, scheduling appointments around bus schedules. We also joined a car share when one became available.

We're pretty excited about adding regular bike trips. We were hesitant in the past because we had babies and would have had to travel on busy streets with them. Our current and permanent location lets us stick mostly to bike paths and safer streets.
