I stayed off the bike today... I feel I deserve a day off after a double century. :)
Total miles for Saturday: 202.7, Elevation gain: approx. 12,600 feet

Wow, nice job dude! Someday I will be there....someday. I got to do Olde Stage yesterday. That was kinda cool. :D

Cool stuff. However, unlike pwnt I will never be there. That type of riding is just not for me but I am finding more interest in short races like crits. They fit my schedule better. Going to watch a few before I decide if I want to take part. Maybe ride a masters or become a cat 5.
...anyways.... good job BM!
Good job BM. :) I also am not up for that length of riding. :) I just like to ride even if its only 20 miles :)
I saw you the other day and you still didn't have an helmet on. You were coming home from work I believe.
WHERE'S YOUR HELMET??

Meh. I hate helmets. And I'll tell you one reason why:
Bicycling is NOT dangerous. You're more likely to die falling in the bathroom than you are while riding a bike.
That said, I wore my helmet today... just trying to get more used to the extra weight... it gives me headaches and makes my neck hurt. :(

Your helmet looks like it weighs 20 lbs. :p

WHAT??? You don't honestly believe this do you?? In two years myself and boyfriend have gone thru 3 helmets all of which have saved our lives. I still have scars from my road accident. Just last week boyfriend had a mountain bike accident and broke his helmet.
I'm at a loss for words:(

I did the Tusday night race in Golden last week, great wide open circuit course that is perfect for begging racers, great 45 minute anaerobic workout as well. Almost every Tusday through July.
We don't get cat 5 in CO, they just throw us newbies in with the wolves of the 4s who ride 4-5 hours a day and have been racing for years.

That sounds like a good race to check out. I would like to be a spectator before jumping in (so to speak). I may just have to check it out. The tuesday part may be problematic for me.
No cat 5s? ew
What is with master races? Are they 30 and over in age? I suppose I should research it.
I would like more info on this as well. So if anyone could help point me in the right direction.

To see the flyer for the races, go to the ACA web pages, go to schedules and click on one of the Psuedo-Mead Training Races listings (they used to take place in Mead, hence the name).
They are held on Tuesday nights at the Colorado State Hwy Patrol training course. The course is roughly 1/3 flat, 1/3 slight decline, 1/3 slight incline. Since its a closed course you get the use of the entire road and there aren't any 90 defgree or really tight turns. The coarse is on top of S. table Mesa just off Old Golden Road and Quaker in S. Golden.
They have two races each Tuesday, the first at 6 is the Cat4s (lowest cat in Amnerican Cycling Association categories) and the next is P-1-2-3s at 7.
There were about 30 guys there last Tuesday for the 4s, it was pretty cold night, everyone had tights/leg warmers and sleeves going.
$15 weekly with an ACA license ($30 a year) or $25 with a one-day license.
The 4s go about 12 laps, I got dropped after 3, caught back on for a few more, then got dropped again, caught back on just in time for a small crash in front of me:eek: , nobody hurt but the first time I have heard alu and asphalt mix it up so close to me. It was fun and a great workout. Some of the p-1-2-3s were rdining at the back warming up for their race and actually giving tips along the way.
All in all, a great intro to racing, a great workout, and its only 15 minutes from my house:)
Sorry to hijak the thread, 200 FREAKIN MILES:eek:   :D
Forgot to mention anything about masters, masters are for older cat1-2-3s and are much faster/harder than the cat4s. I have some friends in UT that only race masters, a couple of years ago they only raced 1s,

Heh... a good hijack is always acceptable around here! I'll post another ride report for you to hijack next weekend, ok? :p

Especially when DJ is around.... I'm always off on tangents.
I believe the blame rests with certain recreational activities I took part in during college . :p
On topic: Congratulations BM!

So, BM.... what is next? Going to try and hit 300 miles in a day?

One of these days.
I'm planning on doing another 300km this weekend, then a 400km the weekend after. Two weeks later the 600km

Keep that up and in a few months you will have to do RAAM. Makes my but sore thinking about it:p

Qualifying for RAAM is one of my goals. Either next year or the year after. :) Dunno if I'll ever have the chance to actually ride it, but I'd like to qualify.

To add more to this...bvfrompc is correct about masters, they are mostly former pros and they friggin hammer. The 'easiest' category out there...and, trust me, I say easiest with a large grain of salt, is likely the Cat 4 35+ group. It's a bit slower...usually...than the regular cat 4s cause you don't get the 18 year old waterbugs (like Taylor Phinney (Connie and Davis Phinney's son)) out there crushing the pace.
Other good race training is the Tuesday and Thursday rides around the Meridian office park. There are a few Thursdays this summer where this is an official race, but all of the other nights there's an hour long race-pace ride at 6. If you can hang the whole time, you can likely hang in the 4s. It's a good group of racers from pros on down.
One last note is that there are a few races that have citizens categories. That includes both crits and road races such as the Mt. Evans hill climb. Finally, USCF puts on some races in Colorado and they will at times have a Cat 5.
ACA's excuse for not supporting cat 5 is a bit lame (they say there's not enough time to get all the cats done if they have a cat 5 which I don't get as most other states do it.)

You better start racing, those guys don't just go far, they go far fast! I have a book about the first ten years of RAAM by Shermer, one of the founders, great read. One of the guys they profiled commutted everyday from Boulder to Denver year round (like 80 miles roundtrip). Come to think of it, he sounds like DataJunk. It does talk about how you can't just be able to go far, you have to be able to go far fast.
Next time we all get together for a ride remind me and I can bring it for you. That is if you ever need a serious rest day and decide to only ride 30-40 miles.

Thanks Chez, anything like Meridian up north? I am working in Longmont so Meridian is a little far.
True about the citizen races, last year I rode citizen at the Federal Circuit and the Bannock St Crits, much smaller fields and a lot of fun. I also did the Parker Main St Omnium last fall, it was USCF so it had a Cat 5, that was a great weekend of racing, a TT, RR, and a Crit. It looks like this year they are only having the Crit.
