I need a decent bike for the summer to commute to and fro from college and maybe try a hand at mountain biking. I have the following offer for a GT bike (dual suspension) for $100:

...GT mountain bike with triple GT triangle frame, thumb shifters and pad brakes. Bike is about 5 years old. It has 26" tires and I think the frame is size 16. It has been well maintained: shifts smoothly, rides really nice, has great pick-up, tires are in great shape, light weight and very reliable...

Is it worth it? I don't want to spend a lot for a bike I might just use for 3 months and $100 seems just about right.

Your reply would be greatly appreciated.

Dual suspension is a bit much for just commuting to school, and it also takes a level of maintenance that a beginner might not want to get into. On the other hand, 100 bucks isn't much. If I were you I'd go for an older rigid frame mountain bike or hardtail (front suspension only) for simplicity and better pavement riding.

But like I said, 100 dollars isn't much, and if you don't like it you can probably sell it for about what you paid.

Does it fit? How big are you?
