On Saturday I captained my company's Tour de Cure team on the 45 mile route around Seattle's hilly eastside. The actual course was 44 miles with just over 2100' of elevation gain total. I got in 4 extra miles (no elevation gain) by riding from my apartment to the event and back.
In true Clydesdale form I was the guy everyone was drafting into the headwinds, I was the hauler of cameras/discarded extra layers of clothing/raingear/and a broken fender (aside from my own raingear and snacks), and I was the lift-assist for one teammate on a steep hill. I rode up next to a teammate who was having a tough time with a steep climb, put my hand on her back and helped haul her the rest of the way to the top.
We all had a blast (even with one guy who kept throwing his chain due to a maladjusted derailleur, and a flat tire from some glass) and we're looking forward to the next big ride together.
