hey guys, just got short notice that i will be in fairbanks on buisness for 2 weeks starting 28 may. i am thinking about taking my bike and instead of flying back out of fairbanks i would like to ride to anchorage. is there a route? good idea bad idea? also i will have one weekend free while in fairbanks, is there any loop routes, like a 3 day 2 night? i can do 40-50 miles with a loaded bike fairly easy. any suggestions would be nice

Welcome to Alaska! Fairbanks to Anchorage is a fairly common ride. You will share the road with cars and motorhomes. I have not done the whole distance. From Denali Park to Anchorage there is fairly good shoulder and some bike path. It is all beautiful country. Hope you get a chance to explore it by bike.

well now its confirmed, im not going to go my origanal route i had planned following the parks highway, instead im going to go down the richardson highway all the way down to the glenn highway...maybe to avoid the heavier traffic. does anyone know any neat off the beaten path type hostels/guest houses?

When we did it we got a start with a copy of The Milepost. Although we also planned using other maps etc., that was basically it. We had a little problem getting space in Denali, so we camped in Healy. it is a fun ride. Assume animals.
