Recreational & Family - Family Ride Day

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Sunday morning dawned bright and beautiful here in the midwest and my wife and I had been talking about going out for a ride. I broke out the trailer loaded up the bikes and off the the MUP we went. Wife on her old Giant MTB, 4 year old on his 16" BMX with training wheel, 7 year old on his BMX, and me on my converted hybrid touring bike pulling my 16 month old daughter. 6 very slow but priceless miles later we packed it all up and went home with a great chorus of this is my new favorite family activity. As a person who does 90% of my riding solo, it is sometimes nice to slow down and cruise while building that connection with the family.

When I was a kid growing up outside of Seattle, Sunday was family day (we weren't too close the rest of the week, but Sundays were different. In the winter we went ice skating. In the summer we went to Green Lake and rode bicycles. Those are precious memories, and sparked a love of cycling that continues to this day.

Our LBS has started a Tuesday night "jeans & sneakers" ride. So far we've had about 25-30 people each week, with 2/3 of that being kids. End up doing about 10 miles or so at a casual pace and have a GREAT time.
