I've got nothing else to do. :D I already have my stuff set for tomorrow, and the kids are wasting time playing Nintendo.

Pffft. Just because some slowpoke was the first finisher in 6:30 last year doesn't mean the course is hard. I expect at least one person to wrap up the 200K ride by 1:00 PM.

You could be there with us mr short fused hyper boy. Burn a little of that energy off, ya know? :D

Bull ****!

I'm not ready for that sort of thing...maybe next summer :o

Ask shemp, i'm not that hyper, and when he forced me to ride 23mph for long stretches i kept my fuse unlit...really, ask him! :)

I picked up my packet, loaded the bike and gear and have everything ready to go. I'll see the rest of you crazy people at the top around 6:20 AM. Look for a black Schwinn bearing #990 (too bad it wasn't a little higher or I'd wear it upside down :p)

Well,
After months of building this event up in my head it turned out to be every bit as hard as I suspected and then some. I know to some this was just a weekend ride, but to me it was the culmination of a year spent dropping 55 lbs and getting my fat ass back in shape. I finished and more importantly to me, I didn't quit. I was all set to stop about a mile into the final climb up Mounds Road and walk up, but after about 100 yards of pushing the bike something snapped in my pea sized brain and I remounted my bike and pushed on. It took every bit I had but I didn't stop again until I passed under the finish line. Final time was 4:51 and taking away the time spent at the rest stops my actual ride time came in at 4 1/2 hours. I was emotional at the end of it and actually started to cry. It was a brutal way to spend 4 1/2 hours of a beautiful Saturday morning but in its own perverted way it felt real good too.

I'll try to get a detailed ride report once my thighs stop cramping time I sit down for more than thirty minutes but the results far and away blew my expectations out of the water. I was aiming to finish between 3:45 and 4:15 PM so imagine my surprise when I crossed the line around 3:30 PM. My on-the-bike time was 7:40 which means I almost averaged 16.0 MPH over 124 miles.

Maybe the Dairyland Dare isn't so hard after all ... ;)
