For those who are not a) Not going to NorCal to ride, and b) not doing the Heartbreak Hundred, I am planning a longish ride for Sunday 27th or Monday the 28th based on the 200K San Diego Brevet held in January. Rather than start in La Jolla I was going to start in Solana Beach, making the route 90-something miles rather than 200K. I have mapped a rough route here (http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Memorial-Day-Weekend-Ride) to give you an idea of what I have in mind. If, like hypnotized lemmings, people insist on making it 100+miles because that's what we do, we can always add some miles on to the route.

Anyone care to join me?
Any preference re. Sunday vs. Monday?

If there's interest I can create a proper routeslip etc and post a meeting place/time.

I'm not going to NorCal, and I'm not doing the Heartbreak Hundred. This means I have no excuses. I'm no hypnotized lemming though.

Excellent. You immediately grasped that those were the only two acceptable excuses.

Weather reports predict cooler backcountry temperatures for Monday versus Sunday, so Monday it is.

Efficiency - you still in?
Anyone else? Or to I have to resort to blackmailing Tiffanie?

An excellent ride. The "90-something" route ended up being 96 miles. I think that efficency and I should get some kind of SoCalBF award or merit badge for showing restraint and resisting the urge to circle the Solana Beach Amtrak parking lot until we had a Century.

Frank joined us from Solana Beach until the turn on to Old Castle Road, then he made some kind of excuse about having a life and headed back home. We were sad to see him go, but then again, from there on out there would be no witnesses. We attacked the Old Castle Road hill, surging up at 16 mph, with a final sprint to the top. Later we did repeats up both sides of the Couser Canyon climb, with the descents holding to the "no brakes" rule. Efficiency's left pedal had developed an annoying ticking sound, so he did his repeats with only his right leg.

The rest of the ride was uneventful and pleasant with the exception of a tedious headwind as we headed west towards Oceanside. Going south on PCH we decisively pwned two teenage girls on pink bikes. All in all a good day.

My ride went the other way. as soon as you guys were out of sight, I slowed way down and cruised back except for one little stretch..

I went up Gopher Cyn Rd but decided on detouring onto Little Gopher Cyn Rd.,a quiet 2 mile residential/ranch street that is a very slight downhill. I was doing about 14 with no hands, eating some Sport Beans when I heard noise to my right. I glanced over to see a brindle boxer or pitbull running parallel to me on a raised embankment. I dialed it up to 5000 watts and did a 1/4 mile sprint in about 2 seconds.

+1 I'm convinced that Frank is flexing in every picture. I mean, he HAS to be, right?

There is a rumor that Frank has had carpal tunnel surgery.

We should have done a few more repeats of Couser Canyon to pass the century mark.
