Ok guys and gals, heres the deal. I seem to have gotten gum all over my rear tire, and I can't seem to get it off. It is absolutly disgusting, and it is everywhere, my brakes, chainstays, everything. I scraped most of it off, but it still makes a thumping sound evertime the tire rolls over that spot. I am weary about usng a razor to get the rest off, because I don't want to cut my tire. Also, I'm worried that if I use goo-gone or something, it will dissolve my tire. any suggestions?

Hold a can of canned air upside down and freeze the sucker,,should come off if it gets frozen.

Seriously though, how did that happen?

Bug and tar remover will take it off the frame, check a spot to make sure it does not mess up the paint.
As for the tire, a well timed skid?
Dazza, First some twit throws their gum on the street(Some countries will cane you for doing this), then you ride over it. It will stick to the tire and the ground and pull out these long strings of gum, really long if it is hot outside, that get ALL over the bike. It is a pain to clean off.

I was thinking, if all else fails, just scrap the bike and get a new one!

I'll try that canned air, I think I have some of that around my house. I can't skid it off, because it is already off of the center of the tread, instead is more on the shoulders and sidewalls. I might even get rid of the tire. I really hate these particular tires, IRC redstorms? heavy and slow-rolling, and even worse gummed.

A disc grinder will get it off the frame. :D

might I suggest a holiday in Scotland? It's cold enough here in June to freeze the gum, your nose, fingers, toes.....

Hey Flaneur , is there plenty of nice rides in Scotland, i lived there for three years, in Glasgow, and have been invited to go on a touring holiday with a local club, wuold you reccomend it?

depends what you mean by cold :) 20 degrees is a 5-times-a-year thing over on the east coast (away from the gulf stream). Can get quite sticky inland, and points west.

It really is a beautiful and relatively unpopulated country but not especially warm. Great for a tour , especially the North and West, but take full waterproofs, an extra jersey and (after June) insect repellent!

The bugs- little biting beasties called midges- are a blessing really. Without them, vast tracts of marvellous country would be covered in holiday cottages and mobile homes...;)

We get DAMN loads of these in Northern Ireland. Its a shame, my parents are going to Bangor in Wales, to see my brother the date im invited to Scotland touring, so im going to have to choose.
