Hey Jeff!!!
I'm pretty sure that road from Camino Del Sur over to Artesian just East of Fairbanks Ranch is unpaved dirt. So you got, like, 3 miles of trails on that route. Was that your plan?

Check that...it may be complete, but I'm not sure if it's opened up yet. Have you checked?

we just road that section last Sat for the SD century, all NEW roads, super smooth almost effortless and not much traffic out that way. The sat maps aren't updated with the new development out there. I also noticed a park/reserve over there where I spotted MTB trails. Saw about 6-7 cars at the trail head. I'm gonna try and ride there tonight after work and scope it out.
Just my luck. I'm driving on Memorial Day weekend to ride when there's another ride starting 3 blocks from my house.

3 blocks from you and about 7-9 from Jason;)
Where are you going to ride?
Heartbreak Hundred in Lebec.

Heck, if it's just you and me, we could leave from Esco and wouldn't have to drive to Oside.

Or you could both join me on Sunday or Monday for some glorious junk miles.

Didn't you hear? There's no such thing as junk miles....And I don't want to ride 90. That's too far.

So what's the pace for these 2 rides? I've been waiting for more people to sign up to get a feel of the pace, but looks like that's not happening. I guess most SD people will be out of town this weekend. :p

thinking the pace on the flats of the coast will be 18-25mph (wind pending), then drop a bit when we hit the hills in Del Mar to RB.
If it's just us Mo, we can just start from Esco and finish the route after the climbs back up from the coast. What ever works is fine. If thats the case, we can meet at the Sports Authority off Valley Parkway and Auto Parkway/9th ave.
I can't ride 90 miles on sunday, hard for me to get an early start due to the second job + after throwing almost 500 sunday papers, I don't want to do much. Not sure if I want to spend the whole Monday on the saddle. Tempting though, just not sure if I want to pedal 6+ hrs. I'll be game for a short ride though, something short and sweet like one trip up South Grade and back down.

Hey Jason, if you can, I'd like to switch the start to Esco then we can go to Stone brewery after the ride:D I'll modify the route slip a bit. Our normal "sport authority ride" i do with some friends here at work is about 55 miles and it goes into Poway more then to the coast.
Do you guys want more rolling hills or fast flats where we can paceline the speed? I'll have my geared bike for this ride, I ordered some new 27" tires off the net so they won't be in til next week.

i can handle that. don't know if i can make the brewery trip this weekend, though. have to help someone install sprinklers!

ehhhhh garden work.......FUNNNNNN
I had to do that when my dad got his house few years ago....the previous owner hand water EVERYTHING,
we have 21 palm trees, 5 giant ferns, 6 rose bushes + a 40ft fence line with Jasmine.
We'll have to make a Stone ride another time cuz I'm SURE Extort wants to join!

Mountain Meadows Rd, just East of the 15.

is that the super steep sonofagun? always wanted to try that.
jsigone
05-23-07, 10:29 PM
not the one that runs parrallel to the freeway over the golf course....that is STEEPER. Mt Murder is ONLY 9.5% grade for under a mile. The one over the golf course is 11-12% average with 13.4% the last 100yrds or so. The guard turned me away once, but able to ride it another. We can try on the return trip from Lilac:D
I would like to do this ride, but should make an appearance at work Sat.
Maybe I'll blow off the work thing and join you,
But 25 m/hr?? only with a tail wind!

Breaking in my new saddle...so I might have taint issues. Should be fun!
jsigone

Ride should be long enough to brake that in. Thinking it's gonna take 3 hrs or so to complete unless we have some long rest stops. We're all about on the same page as for as speed goes so it should be fun.
Toss the coin, hills on the 395 area or hill on Scripps Ranch? Scripps loops has longer flats to make up time but the hills I think are harsher/longer LOL but iduno what other hill is harsher then Mt Murder. I think the West Lilac hill is under 4 miles.

done!!!
Tiff if, you want to join, you're more then welcome to come, we'll ride at your pace and you can always draft on the flats and DH. 20+ mph drafting is alot easier then doing it solo. No worries + I dont have a computer on the geared roadie so I never know how fast I'm going:D

I was >thisclose< to bailing on the wedding but I don't think it'd be too cool having to tell my cousin I missed her wedding for a bike ride. :p :p
