I searched a few keywords and found several similar threads...but not the direct answer I'm looking for. So my apologies for another lame "will it work" thread.
I have a 9-speed 105 triple set-up. I'd been kicking around the idea of a compact crankset. I was able to pick up a Sram Rival compact for a good price...but now I'm not sure it'll actually work smoothly without changing out some other parts. My primary concern: the crankset (or at least the chainrings) are stamped 10-speed only.
I have a compact specific FD (FSA) that might help (better chance of working smoothly than the triple FD I would think)...but the chainrings have me concerned. And for the price of swapping out the chainrings, I'd probably rather sell the Rival set (hopefully for about what I paid with lesson learned) and go with something else. I'm assuming the new Tiagra-level version of Shimano's compact crankset comes with 9 speed rings?
