Training & Nutrition - Excel Riding log

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I decide to make a excel spreadsheets so I can keep track of how far I ride and my average speed in mph to see if it gose up over time. The spreadsheet has 12 tabs one for each month.
I am posting it here to see if anyone will find it useful. If you do I will take advice and add what I can to it.
I am thinking of adding a calorie calculator but not sure what to base it on distance or time l tryed both and got a big descepancy between the 2 reults they gave
There is few minor bugs in it at the moment
1. You have to enter your time in min not hours because excel dose not work tell with times.
2. If you cycle for more than 24 hours in a month the total time in hours counter will reset because it tihnks its a 24 hour clock if anyone knows how to get round this please post it here.
3. Every month has 31 days because I copyed and pasted and can not be bothered correcting it.
all feedback welcome good or bad.
the file is in excel 97-2003 format as not that many people are useing 2007 yet and you can't buy it

To convert h.min to min use this.
cell C213 has ride time in hrs and min eg 1.23 is 1 hour 23 minutes
will output 83 (for 83 minutes)
=60*INT(C213)+100*(C213-(INT(C213)))
I did not open the xls file as it has macros I cannot disable.

cyclistats FTW.

I also have an Excel spreadsheet which I've been using since the mid-1990s. It is set up a bit differently than yours ... with lots of formulas, but no macros.
I also use bikejournal.

hmm that's strange there should not be any macros :( but the file was made in office 2007 so god knows and as i work as a systems administrator i know how bad macros can be
ps thakns znomit fot the formula will take a loot at that tommrow (http://www.bikeforums.net/member.php?u=68315)
That is wierd. Mine mentioned macros and I told it to go ahead (I live life on the edge :p ) and went in and it doesn't show any macros, maybe I just got a virus  but yeah the sheet looks nice, i might make graphs and stuff for it, maybe some conditional formatting so it highlights stuff based on performance.

Average speed is pretty meaningless for comparing your performance unless you always do the same rides. My average for the third week of may was almost 1mph slower than the previous week, but I did almost twice as much climbing...

While I won't argue with you about how many people are using it, I don't know why you think you can't buy (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HCVR1M/ref=nosim?tag=topmusicstars14-20) it...

For fun and motivation, my spreadsheet has all the data in one sheet then uses formulas to calculate the mileage for each month by looking at the date and adding them for each month, which is displayed on a second sheet. It also totals all and calculates the % of the total annual goal mileage I've set. A 3rd sheet displays the monthly data in a bar graph format for quick reference and the motivation to watch the graph grow.
The total time doesn't have any problems with 24 hour settings if you convert the time to a decimal number. I round to nearest 5 second increment: 1:22:15 = 82.25 min. I can give you the formulas for each of these, including converting the time back to hours/minutes if you like. No need to post all that for just the sake of it unless someone wants it - just PM me and I can send details in a response or on the board for others to use too.

The key to time in excel is understanding that 1 = 24 hours (1 hour = 1/24, a year equals 365, etc.) Enter your time as h:mm:ss and change the cell formating to display it as hours, minutes and seconds.
I'd be happy to send you a copy of my ride log spreadsheet which dates back to 1989 and has over 61k miles logged  Some features:
>A macro for entering rides that has a drop down box for previous routes with mileage, bike ridden and date.
>One tab for this years rides with totals by month and week.
>One tab for previous years with personal bests for mileage by month.
>Last tab is a chart tracking miles of all years since '89 (I'm currently at a personal best for mileage to date...unemployment has it's advantages :D)
