General Cycling Discussion - Lack of motivation?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I never thought I would be posting this thread... but today I just didn't feel like riding. I got up at my usual 4.30am on a Sunday, put my sunscreen on, had my breakfast, but it occurred to me that I just didn't feel like doing it all today.
I set off and went anyway, hoping that the morning air or the beautiful raindrops would change my mind, but they didn't (it stopped raining anyway). I got to Nerang (about 12 km into the ride) and realised this wasn't going to work, so I admitted defeat and went home. Maybe I just need to spend a day at home doing nothing for a change?

Absolutely! Every once in awhile it's nice to just DO NOTHING...You seem from your posts to be the type that just goes and goes. It will do you good to just relax for a change. I seriously doubt you are the type that would make it a habit :p That's when you should worry! If you can't get up off your arse, then you've got trouble.
Personally, I've been wastin' way too much time myself. Blaming divorce, work, health, whatever....None of these things are legit! I'm glad I found this forum and got up off of my butt! Made some changes to my bike and found out just how nice a piece of equipment it really is...
Life is good once again :D

Burn out happens to everybody. I am so damn compulsive/obseesive that I have resorted to keeping a weekly log of my running and biking, and I scold myself if there hasn't been a day off. Because I got a new bike this week I am going to get a scolding. :p

Don't feel bad Chris. I felt the same way today.
From the time I got up I couldn't stop yawning. I guess I was just tired. I even went to a new bike shop to see if that would help but it didn't, so I went home and had a nap.
Now I'm all psyched up for a good ride tomorrow.
I told my wife she'd be on her own for a few hours. She doesn't mind though. She wants me to ride so I can stay healthy, and it helps clean out the cobwebs.
We all have those days. Just listen to what your body wants or needs. Don't push yourself when you aren't ready.

Yeah sometimes it is just like that. The fact you get up at 4:30 hints to me that you may have a tendency to overdo things sometimes. There is a point when too much is too much.
I am kind of like that too. I do thing excesivly somtimes and then for a while not at all: I lost motivation. It comes again. Don't force it and don't concerns yourself with it. Especially you do this for FUN to please yourself.

Yeah, it came back in a big way today. Unfortunately I'm stuck with only doing a 32km round-trip commute.

But, Chris, that is the great thing about commuting. You don't even have to think about it. Though I can honestly say there hasn't been a day yet that I haven't looked forward to both the AM or PM ride. Of course, I don't have killer magpies to worry about. :D
It's 2 minutes to 4:00, the sun is shining, and I'm just about done with another BORING day here in cubeville! I can't wait to get on my bike to head home!!:) :) :) :D
