Electric Bikes - Building a electric bike!

Hi everyone,

I've been working on a design in Design Workshop Lite (A Macintosh CAD application) for a custom built electric bike.

The entire bike will be custom made, custom fabricated and built.

The hardware store will be where I will get the tubing for the frame. I haven't decided on a specific electric motor yet. I will be using a standard sized bike tires for the tires. (27 inch or a little smaller)

Other than that and the motor everything will be custom made.

Cool, I have a hand drawn design I should snac. It has an "A" type frame. Think of the letter "A" and tilt it about 60 degrees to the right. The batteries, 30 X 1.2V Nimh = 36V are mounted inside the frame. They can be easily removed and since they're regular "D" cells (Matched BTW) they're easily replaceable.

The motor is a crank motor. Think of the Bionx hub motor but instead you're pedaling the the shaft and the motor casing has a gear cog on the outside which goes to the rear derailleur.

The only downside is the lack of regen braking. But that's what happens when you have a freewheeling rear hub and a freewheeling crank.

FS... what kind of specs and technical details does your design have?

The attached image is drawing 1.0 design of the motor bike.

It's pretty simple at the moment, but im still working on it.

Currently it is powered by a 12-Volt battery and a 12-volt electric motor, Belt-driven to the rear tire.

Currently the design is 4 lets say "w" shaped copper or other metal tubing makes the frame. (top and bottom). The design is made specifically for me, since I am VERY lightweight person (122lbs) Im using the less-expensive copper tubing which dosen't hold as much weight. The drawing will improve with time, still working on it. The battery and the motor sit in the mid-center of the frame, your legs sit on a top of the frame where (not added yet) there is a seat and foot rests. Adding more as I go, like blinkers, lights etc.
