Hope it was the beginning of the 45 minute window, and not the end of the window.

Well that's why I use cheap tires!:D

What brand WAS the tire?

it was the end of my window, as in by the time I changed my flat, I would have had about 20 minutes to ride. Turns out it was the tube right at the nipple. Must have nicked it or something. Tires are ProRace 2. I never have flats.

As for the beer or three, that had to wait. I saw Al Gore speak tonight at the Wilshire. Packed house. 70% women. Total Prius parade in the parking lot. Must have been 8 on my row, including mine.

yes, my name is dangerman. I drive a prius.

Don't you know that beer reduces your carbon footprint?

/waiting for my Armadillos to wear out so I can mount the PR2's...it's going to be a long wait.

Hey, DM, I'm considering getting a Prius myself (well, that or a Subaru, but my aunt is trying to talk me into a Prius). What kind of gas/mileage does it really get? I've heard 40 gal.s and I've heard no better than 27. ????

M.E. The new Honda Civic Hybrid gets 51 mpg highway/49 in the city.

ME, ME, ME ... I guess I didn't tell you I drive a Prius??? I have been keeping my mpg on for the last 3-4 months, and the average is 46 ... sometimes I can get it to 49, if I keep at or a little below the speed limit (imagine going 65 on I-5 from Coalinga to Bakersfield???). Even on a bad day, where I just go hog wild, I will get around 44 mpg.

Makes sense, doesn't it? Bicycling ... environment ... Prius, hybrid ... environment. See a theme here?

The commercials state 60/51, but there is no way I can reach that.

speaking of carbon footprint, since most of us commute to work on our bikes we should get together and create a coalition and have people pay us for not driving our cars to offset their carbon footprint:)

First three weeks, we averaged 43mpg. I drove to vegas for the NAB convention, and got 45mpg for the first time, and in the past few weeks, we've gotten it up to 48mpg average. If you just drive it like a normal car, you'll get 43. If you learn the pulse and glide bit (accelerate quickly, then use the glide mode- glide is when you aren't using the battery or gas motor, and you're not charging the battery) then you get better mileage.

ME, when you arrive in the Bay Area, I'll let you test drive my Prius for a few miles (time permitting).

Most important question in my decision on buying a car - will it transport my bike without having to put a rack on the back? :D

Well I love Hondas, Paul. Is it $22K or under? I've been drooling over the Subaru Outback for over two years and riding in Ronjon's on Saturday didn't help dampen my car-lust. However, a hybrid just seems the right way to go.

I don't drive a Honda...I was talking about my 'Vette. And, you'd look hot driving one, too.

:roflmao: OH, come on, Mo. Jeff would look smokin' hot driving a cement truck AND he'd dig it (I can see him getting that thing up to 40 mph and barreling down a utility road).

As for the vette, I said $22K or under! I'm a poor working girl. :o

the new Yaris is like 11-14k and gets 40mpg. Just add a roof rack and your set. It has a the same motor then is in my Box. But my box handles like ass as Mo says LOL

The new XD is coming out soon, has the a 2.6l 4 banger motor that makes 150sih HP, about 50 more then my box. Think the EPA is 24-26mpg though.

Well...I got mine for $20.5K in Oct. '05, and it's a '99 and had 43K miles on it. I average 24 mpg weekly. On long road trips (6th gear...75mph) I get over 30 mpg. I'm a bit more conservative than the 'typical' Corvette driver in that I don't race to the next red light and don't rev my engine for effect.

The downside is that you have to put at least 89 octane in it...and I always put 91 or better...so that's 20 cents more per gallon...nearly $4 more per tank. And you can only fit two people in it...and only one bike...which is why I got my trailer hitch and hitch rack.

(all in fun, you see, I'm not trying to convince you to buy a Corvette as it's wholly impractical for nearly everything.)

I said your box corners like a UPS truck...not like ass. Mustangs handle like ass. :D

Wanna hear impractical? I'm debating getting a '67-'69 Camaro, so I can cruise with the family.

I'm down with this. Between the commuting and Mo'Phat's suggestion that beer helps too, I gots me some major credit!

If you're going cheap -- try a small mid/late-'80s pickup truck. I sold my 2000 Jeep Wrangler, which chewed up gas if you so much as looked at it funny, and got an '89 Chevy S-10 with less mileage than the Jeep for a quarter of what I got for the Jeep. It carries lots of bicycles and other useful things, like lumber and dirt and furniture -- yes, I'm a homeowner. It's worth virtually nothing and since I commute on the bike, I have it insured as a recreational vehicle for a mere $20 a month. The mileage is a surprising 24mpg and it passed smog with flying colors. Plus the dog loves it.

Anyway, too bad about missing the riding window. These days, I can totally empathize. Where the flock does the time go...?

Thats would be a SWEET cruzer + you can take it down to the Q on friday nights and run the 1/8 if you want. My dad's best friend has a 69 SS and 71 GTO with big block and tubbed.
