I've been using a Fuji saddle with the cutout center. It's fine up to about 30 mi. and then it causes backache and sore spots. So, I picked up a Selle San Marco Blaze that has a narrow nose and a wider back to fit my dimensions. Although it's exactly what I expected and I kind of like it, after my first ride today I noticed something odd. I have a feeling this is not the saddle, but my left sitz bone is perfectly comfortable (at least during my first 30 mi. ride) but my right sitz bone aches. The saddle is straight, at the right fore and aft position and basically level. Not sure what to try next.

I picked up a blaze a few weeks ago and have about 200 miles on it. I haven't noticed what you are describing. It is a hard saddle, yet comfy for my typical 20-25 mile ride. I had to move mine forward about 1/2 inch after the first ride. I didn't feel I was sitting back quite far enough on it. Been fine since.

Here's a possible answer: Your butt may not be exactly symmetric, and it may help to aim the saddle a tiny bit to one side.

Give it some more time before you punt.

Nah, that's not it. I have 5 bicycles, so the LBS just keeps my wallet for me. :)

I'm hoping that a few hundred miles will result in a good break-in. We'll see.

It took me about 60 miles for my butt to get broken in to this saddle. Now its great!

If ever there were a perfect reason to go Brooks, this is it. Many people develope a 'strong side' as they grow and mature. At 51, take a look at what I do to a B17. Very lop-sided to the right, yet total comfort as the leather takes up my form, not just the ischial dimples. You sometimes reach a point where a few extra onces doesn't matter.

Ahhh- The Ole "Right sitz bone" syndrome. I often while coasting down a incline, sit on my right thigh bottom. It gives short relief but helps.

It might be due to stenosis. I have similar problem w/some saddles and when driving for > 1 hour. See an orthopaedic surgeon if it's big problem for you. MRI will confirm.

I don't have this problem with any other bicycle seat, nor do I have it in a car or on my Ducati. In fact, I've ridden cross country doing 500 mi. days on the Ducati w/no problems.

I had Stenosis and you're correct bruce, there are all kinds of signs much more readily noticable than a pain in the butt after 30 miles.

Such as?

The only symptoms of stenosis I have are as I described above, so you are incorrect. The only bike saddle which gives me a butt problem is the Rido, but it's the only one I've tried which doesn't cause numbness.

Adjusted my saddle by dropping the nose slightly and it seemed to resolve the imbalance between sitz bones. But, after a 43 mi. ride yesterday my butt was really chafed. So, I may have to give up on the saddle. A friend has a new San Marco gel he wants to trade for a Fizik Arione (1 yr. old) I have. Probably will do that. Anyone wanting a new Selle San Marco Blaze saddle, just contact me.
