Because i've burned an extra 7,000 calories this week, including the 1,000 i burned today on a nice and easy recovery ride...i can sip this wine and eat this bread and not feel guilty. How's that for "hateorade"
Cheers
Sounds great. For myself, I'm going to have some pie!
How are you measuring that? Not to burst any bubbles, but that seems really high.

It very well could be...i base it on my heart rate monitor (which is on par with bikejournal.com's and caloriesperhour.com calculators), and...well...ok is including the 90 miles i'll ride at the end of the week.
Hey, fact is, even if its wrong...the bottom line is that i've been home for 2 weeks and been riding a ton and despite the fact that i've made no effort to change my diet i've lost 4lbs over the course of the last 3 weeks.
Actually though, doc...if you've got a more accurate way to measure it i'm all ears.
**EDIT**
I just ran the numbers for the actual past 7 days, according to my methodology, 5,600 calories.

HRM's tend to measure a little high, but you're in the ballpark. Still a great accomplishment.

+1 .. I ride to eat.
Sitting here about to devour a Pecan Chicken Tender Salad and some peanuts. Then I'm having me some KettleCorn popcorn. Yummy. I've only burned 5400 since Saturday, but the week's young!
The only reason I ride a bike and run is so that I can eat a lot of food. I just downed a whole box of mac and cheese to myself earlier. Can't beat that with a stick.

I'll tell ya, if you are not getting fat it is certainly due to the exercise because i use to eat like that all the time and got real fat real quick

I am genetically predispositioned to be a fatty boom ba latty. Everyone in my family is overweight. When I get injured or can't exercise for some reason, I blow up like a balloon. My weight fluctuates a lot throughout the year. Luckily, I can't stop moving!

I eat like a fiend cuz my metabolism never seems to drop off.
I get hunger pangs at least once a day.
When Im in full commute mode I eat whatever and whenever I
want. In the summer Im about 155lbs.
I will be interested to see how my body reacts to going from serious hills
everywhere to no hills anywhere in about a month

Kraft?
Just curious because when I grew up, we used to have mac&beans for dinner with fried green tomatoes (no, I'm not being cute...my mother did roll them in peppered cornmeal and she did fry them) for dinner. Great! Now I've got a craving for Mac&beans and I'm on a diet.
But you, cutie Mirona, can have all you want. ;) In fact, you should roll in some cheese (and wear nothing else) and take a pic for that "other" thread. Just so we can call you "Mirona in Cheese" :p:D

Judging by your pictures in the "How Hot Are These Guys?" thread, you've apparently beaten the ever-living **** out of your genes.
+1,000,000. :D But you do work hard, Mirona, that's for sure.

*sigh*
You guys somehow managed to make me feel guilty about my feast.
Don't feel guilty...eating is one of the best parts of cycling, and exactly why I'm looking forward to my century on Saturday and my double century the following Saturday! FOOD!
I'm about as big as Pantani, and I eat like a horse, and I seem to be loosing upper body mass. It makes me mad, but I'm getting faster.

good for you Timmy!
I have no idea how much I burn just like I havent step on a scale for years.
if my size in clothes doesnt change then I never worry about weight:)
Hard riding = bonus eating. :)
Not so for all of us... Really hard rides make me super hungry--I have to watch what I eat, especially in race season, to avoid gaining weight. :(

Doesn't that also depend on when and what you eat, Doc? I believe in the 2 hr recovery window, intake goes to restock muscle and liver glycogen rather than store as fat. I am right on that, aren't I?

Hmm...answers?

You're absolutely right, but say I go to a race and burn 1000 kcal. I'll drink my recovery drink (240 kcal) and still be hungry for hours and hours after, whether I eat "right" or not. I'm sure there's a reason for it, I just don't know what it is.

I've noticed, for myself, that when i'm highly active i eat frequently but much less quantities.

Yes, there is a window - which is a different time period for everyone - where carbs, when taken with protein, will be shunted towards muscle replenishment.
However, if you intake fat at the same time, then you've screwed the pooch.

I think it may be a genetic holdover from times when humanity wasn't assured a secure and stable food supply (Hunter/gatherers), and we needed fat reserves to get through the thin times. In modern society, that predisposition can turn into a lethal genetic expression.
