I'm open to suggestions for better routes. I primarily want to stay on flat stuff because I'll essentially be doing a century ride a day.

One thing I'm worried about is biking through LA and malibu area. Anyone know any good routes through LA that won't get me shot/ lost/ otherwise destroyed? (showing them on gmaps would be REALLY appreciated) Thanks! and I'll be sure to have pictures up once I do the ride.

that's going to be a sweet trip. my girlfriend's grandparents live in cambria and there is some cool riding all up and down the 1.

Great trip. Just a couple of quick thoughts

Your Monterey to San Simeon means you are doing the Big Sur section in one day. That will be your toughest day as it is the hilliest. It is doable but if you want to break it up, you can stay in Big Sur.

Port Hueneme is not the best city in the world. If you wanted to walk the town, you would be better in downtown Ventura. If you have some reason to stay in Port Hueneme (like staying with a friend), then I am sure you will be fine. I am just saying the night life in Ventura is better.

That's pretty cool. I want to ride the California coast route sometime. Tell us how it goes.

of course.

As for monterey to san simeon....it should also be the most scenic....so I don't mind the hills because I have an excuse. "I need to stop and take pictures"

the port hueneme thing....it just has the cheapest motel. and gets me on the far side of the city in preparation for my next ride.

anyone ever bike thorugh LA? if so, what route did you take?

my buddy and i got lost in highland park at around 2am on our bikes. needless to say it was incredibly sketchy. stick to the coast, i guess.

It looks like you're skipping most of the scary/dangerous parts of LA by sticking to the coast. Just beware distracted hollywood types on PCH (ref. Brandy, Nicole Richie, Lane Garrison...).

I love your Day 3 itinerary - I was doing a motorcycle tour down the coast with my wife a few years back, and we scheduled the half-day tour at Hearst. Afterward, I wished we'd planned on staying an extra night and doing the full day. That place is just awesome.
