Mountain Biking - Sram X.O

Well recently i busted up my bike and i'm due for a new derailuer this coming winter and it's been on my mind. I've tried out the X.O on a DH bike and it seemed pretty nice, but am wondering if it's compatible with my LX triggers? I'm pretty reluctant to get rid of my trigger shifters, but i dont want to go a rapid rise XTR rear derailuer

Nope, not compatible. You need Sram Shifters.

If you want to keep your shifters, you've got to use Shimano Rear Derailleur and vice versa with the X.0 line.

Sram does make shifters that are compatible with Shimano derailleurs, but not the other way around!

a2psyklnut is correct. SRAM XO der. works on a 1:1 ratio, and are made to work with 1:1 ratio shifters from SRAM. If you do not want to drop the bucks on XTR the try LX or XT.

The XO is a sweet setup. SRAM has trigger shifters out now that will work with it.

I have also recently learned that X.0 derailleurs require the 1:1 shifters. But to me its no biggie. I'm a big advocate of choice and don't want Shimano taking over the bike world (Much like MicroSoft in home computers). I don't mind spending $100+ or less for new shifters as long as I can get a superior product that is not necessarily built by Shimano. I do have Shimano 959s on my bike and I love them to death. They have taken a beating and are as reliable as they were the first day I bought them. But ultimately, as a consumer, I want choices of products with choices of quality.

I think the SRAM stuff is reasonably priced in my opinion. I payed 85 for x.7 trigger shiftesr+derailleur, and it shifts probably better than any setup i have seen. I love the way the triggers work though, grip shift is crap in my opinion

X.O is worth it, twist shifters and all (I've heard good things about their triggers, but can't speak of them personally). I was a big fan of Shimano triggers. I used them with rapid rise, which I think is the best Shimano has done, maybe a little finicky, but it shifted nicely. I don't think I'll ever go back to Shimano shifters or derailleurs now. I don't like the dual control thing. With my old Shimano set up (XT shifters with an XTR rear d) I had to make minor adjustments every 5 hours oor so of riding. With the X.O I got about 50 hours of riding before I had to touch a barrel adjuster. The stuff works.

im not entirely convinced its worth it myself. I have the x.7 stuff and i mean the reviews are as good as the x.9/0. Is there any performance increase with the x.0 vs the x.7?

I've only ridden the X.O, so I can't really speak for the 7 and 9. I've been much happier with my X.O stuff than I was with my XT/XTR stuff. I've heard excellent reviews of SRAM's other models. I think they've worked the bugs out of their systems and can finally compete with Shimano on quality and performance.

As usual things get lighter. The shifters get more precise with higher quality components.

On the older x.7, they didn't have the pully sitting on top of the derrailleur. They might have changed that.

One thing to note is that 8 speed isn't available with X0. It's available on X9 and down.

My 4 year old second hand X.7 setup works great. Once it's dialed in, it stays there.

frankly i cant imagine shifting any more precise. WHen i got this thing tuned for the first time I didnt even believe it shifted it was so smooth and quiet.

ya ive notice all the newbs digging up old threads. i think it cause they go right to the back and read from ther or mabey they do a search(ha!) to find what they want
