Hey! I just thought I'd like to share the fact that I bought my first folding bike a week (or two) ago. Yup. Granted, it is a Walmart Bike, but on the whole, it seems to be on the higher end of things quality-wise (trust me, I work assembling Walmart bikes 5 days a week, and I have found that not all Walmart bikes are P.O.S. quality. A few of them are real crappy through and through. CCM is a pain in the butt to adjust, and some wheels are really out of true. But there are some good Walmart bikes out there. You just got to know what you are looking for).

Anyway, I've been carpooling to the city with both my parents to work every morning since I got home from college, and I had been thinking, "You know, it would be really nice to have a folding bike that we could just throw in the back that I could zip around town with right after work" (I get off an hour before either of my parents, and Dad's work is at the other end of town - a 1 hour hike or a 10 minute bike ride). After looking on ebay and thinking, I concluded that for the pricerange I was looking at, the Walmart folder was going to give me what I wanted. As it was, with shipping costs, I would have paid as much or more for an older, more dubious bike than this one.

And so far, I have been really happy with it. Since I got it, I've been able to get errands done that were impractical or required a car before (lots of simple stuff... doctors appointments, haircut, etc). And when I fold up the bike, I haven't gotten much of any flack for bringing it in places. Well, I did get told to get out of 7-11, but it wasn't folded then either. And 7-11 is a real small store. And it was a dumb idea to shop there for stuff anyway (I went to Safeway instead. Nobody said a word about me walking around with my bike. And if they told me off, I'd simply fold it up and pop it into a cart. Real simple).

Ahh... the freedom of a folder. I'm always a bit nervous, though, when I take my bike into a business of any sort. But like I said, most places probably won't tell me off when it's folded. And if they do, I can point to their total lack of facilities for locking up bikes.

The other thing I've begun noticing more now that I am biking in a city is the stupidity of some drivers. I thought it wasn't bad out here, but I guess I was wrong. But that is a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

Anyway, I'm starting to ramble. I guess the gist of this all is that I'm real happy having a folding bike. Really happy. Yeah. Oh, and I've attached some pics of it.

Congratulations. Didn't realize Walmart carry folding bikes. Care to share the brand. I settled on a Dahon after considering other brands but couldn't find any reviews of unknown brands on BF. I am happy with my Dahon and I always keep it in the trunk of my car for a spin when the urge hit me. Welcome to the folding community and ride safely.

I think that is a NEXT folding bike, which I saw in Walmart Canada. It is a 20-inch.

Got the '06 cobalt blue and I enjoy it very much. Just did 45.5 miles this morning. (it's on another thread titled "Personal Best on Folder") I get weird look from other cyclists specially when I pass them.

Cool! You're in good company. And those "weird looks" were looks of jealousy ;) People are always stopping me asking where I got the bike, if I like the way it rides etc. Then they want one. I told them that if they want the D7 now, they probably will have to end up getting the 'o7 puke green one, I mean ivy green or whatever they call it... ;)

I saw that slimy green color the other day at the LBS and I'm glad I got the '06 model. I didn't want to be riding this year model. But it's my first venture into folding bike. Have been considering getting another bike since last year, the hybrid's but glad to venture into the folder. I might go down to a 16" folder one day and I know I will haave a blast.

Yeah. I accidentally loaded two of the same kind instead (by the apple tree) and forgot the folding pic. Here it is. Fits real nice in the trunk (the bike that is... well, I guess the picture also fits real nicely in the trunk too).

Yup. It's a NEXT. The brand name makes it a pain to search for on the internet.

Apparently these folders weren't selling well before I bought mine. Granted they are still not selling like hot cakes, but since I bought mine, people have been asking me about it. One of my dad's co-workers saw it, and after I showed it to him, he promptly rode over to Walmart and bought one.

So far, this bike hasn't given me much trouble. The only thing wrong is that the indexed shifting is starting to act up a bit (or was yesterday. It was fine today), but I figure that's just because the cables are doing their initial stretching and breaking in. I'll give it another week or two and then readjust it as it gets to be a nuisance.

Actually, it's kind of funny: We had a bike come into Walmart where the customer got a refund. The problem - "Broken". So I checked it out, and all that was wrong with it was the cables had stretched a wee bit (like new cables do) and the brakes and shifting needed to be readjusted.

Anyway. It's real nice and fun to be able to zip around the city after work. I checked my Odometer today, and so far, I've ridden between 30-40 km (I can't be exactly sure. Since it's a wireless speedometer, I have to fire it up manually, and I occasionally forget to do it for a while). With the price of gas going the way it is, it would be downright silly for me to do my in city moving mostly by automobile.

I'm thinking I should get/build a nice basket for the back like one of these folding baskets on ebay. If the combined cost of buying and shipping them weren't so expensive, I might just buy one from there. But I cannot justify the cost. For now, I've got my back pack. Anyone have any homebrew solutions that work for them? The main reason I would like a basket is so that if and when I run errads like picking up a few groceries (like some apples and oranges... and maybe a bit of milk or things of that like. Nothing much), I can carry them and be justified bringing my bike in to use as a cart.

Great looking bike Sir Lunch-a-Lot. I didn't even know Next made folding bikes. I'm new to folding bikes too and find them to be really handy. I used to park my full sized bike in the storage/conference room at work and every time a meeting took place, someone always rolled the bike out into the main office room. Now I just fold my bike and tuck it under my desk.
