Yep, out for my nightly 10 miler and during the 5 miles of MUP I dropped three riders.

The first guy was on a beater MTB with three baskets full of fishing gear wearing jeans and a sweatshirt, but it was uphill so it counted. Second guy was actually on a pretty nice Specialized MTB, I passed him going in the opposite direction about 1 mile from the end of the MUP, go there turned around and caught him about a half mile from where passed him before. Coasted by him so he wouldn't think I was trying too hard. Ah, number two down. Oh, did I mention he weighed about 300 lbs. The third was a young couple on hybrids doing about 7 mph. I passed them at almost twice their speed.

I also dropped several dog walkers, pedestrians, joggers, and a 2 year old on a three-wheeled fixie.

What a night, I was awesome :)

I see Sheryl Crowe in your future. But when you drop her, as you studs always do, let her down easy.

Shame on you:D I bet the 2 year old will remember this for years.

Actually she was quite an adventure. Weaving back and forth on the MUP and everytime I told her I wanted to go around, she stayed straight for about 2 seconds and started weaving again. It must have taken 10 minutes to get by her. Possibly the slowest pass on record.

Seriously though, this is exactly why sometimes I just enjoy riding the MUP. It slows you down and you get to see so many different/interesting people and I talk to them all. Some actually talk back. I did get to talk to the big guy on the MTB for a while. He was a new rider trying to loose some weight and get healthy. I recommended that if he was only riding the MUPs he should replace the knobby tires. He didn't even know that would make a difference. But anyways, good for him.

My wife commented one day after a ride that for 30-odd years I was pretty anti-social and since I've been riding I've turned into the MUP version of Chatty Kathy.

Well, I suppose it makes up for the fact that I got dropped by three riders last night...

Weekly club ride in the hills to the southeast of the city. Thirty or so started the ride. Eight miles out, four of us took the 20-mile cut. I hung with them most of the way, then just pooped out three miles from the end. Darned hammerhead kids!

(Of course, I rode 12 miles to the start of the ride, and they all drove.)

Thanks a lot Jet. I read that this AM, mid-gulp of coffee. Now it's all over my monitor.

I dropped my water bottle once, but it started rolling downhill and dropped me - oh, well.....

Oh man, I can't even imagine how good that must have felt. Three riders? Oh yeah, roll on, baby :D

Dropping the families that are riding together with their kids is the best part about riding the MUP. BEING dropped by the family riding with kids in trailers is the worst part.

well they seemed to enjoying their rides as well...but why the comments about their bikes, clothing, weight, and speed...? we're all cyclists, enjoying our rides...I hope that you don't have thoughts like this as you fly past me on the trails...it would take away from my ride

Did you happen to get a wattage reading during the course of the three races? It had to be at least 400W and might have even spiked as high as 600W during peak efforts. Congratulation on the wins! :D

No offense meant.. It was supposed to be just a little "tongue in cheek" story about a night on the MUP. If you read my later post you would have noticed I chatted with most of them, even the little girl on the tricycle. Also, slow riders and kids are the only ones I can pass. Except for the occassional roadie that has stopped to rest.

I should share this here...

last weekend I had a group that I've been posting with on my regional board in another forum up to the cottage to tour my home trails. Not knowing their skills, I put together a 30km loop of technical singletrack and some wider stuff with steep climbs and descents.

Turns out that two of them were on single speed MTB's, all were half my age, but as the guide, I got to lead.

And I did good...we had to send one back to the trailhead because he couldn't keep up, the rest thought we had a "blast". Of course they could have ridden me into the ground, but they were a great bunch, non competative, and just out for a good time.

They came back on their own the next day to explore our system further

not bad for an old guy

:D

There is a French Lab in your future. It's a known fact that you couldn't have dropped that many people without illegal substances.

What kind of pie was that?

Why count the "couple on hybrids" as one! That's TWO riders, MAN!!!

You dropped FOUR!!

I am mightily proud of you.

Hey, I'd count that two year old. Some of them can be pretty tough!:D That brings your total up to five. That makes you an ACE on MUPs.;) Way to go!

The sad thing about all of this is that it REALLY is satisfying. I dropped some teenager toodling along on a Huffy and felt like Landis destroying the mob on the mountain.

Then I went home and took some drugs.

Carter's little liver pills do not count as doing "some drugs".

You evil man Tim. Glad you don't ride my paths.

I rode down to meet my son at school yesterday. Streams of teenagers pouring from the gates. Hmm, they do do the 'cool' bit don't they. So I considered my dork index for the day - yellow lycra jersy straining to hold back the belly, helmet with a mirror, bike shorts not nicks. The lad didn't say anything, was glad to ride with me, but was diplomatically non-committal when I mentioned the dork index.

How about Voltaren? Lisinopril? Cialis?

Tonight I dropped a grade school kid wearing a heavy backpack while talking on his cell phone. His knobby 20" inch wheels were a tough match for my 700 Bontrager racelites. Then I yelled at him in French as I jammed my tire pump in his spokes..........

Sorry, but still no. Try maybe, opium, hashish and oh say mescaline. THOSE are "some drugs". I double dog dare you to try riding under the influence of all three of those. Especially your MTN bike

Carter's little liver pills do not count as doing "some drugs".

They had to stop using the term "liver" in the name. The FTC found they had no effect on the liver.

The original ingredients to "Carter's Little Pills" were:

- Dried mandrake/mayapple root
- Dried aloe juice.

That's it.

Now they contain a laxative, so I hope Weak Link goes lightly on them!!!

I'm willing to double dog dare him to go out on a long ride after taking several of those Carter's Little Pills laxatives.

Naah.

1) Illegal. I've always been a little weird about that.

2) I remember when Kennedy and Bono were fatally injured because of skiing under the influence. I don't think it would be much safer on a bike.

Still, the thought of dropping some peyote before embarking on an LSD ride DOES sound intriguing.

You wimp. I dropped three people on hybrids while riding the trike with the dog in it. :D
